Despite getting the vaccines and wearing a mask everywhere and being as careful as we possibly could, 2021 still gives me one final "fuck you" to end the year.
Thought I would be ok since I had the shots, but my hospital bed proves that it only curbs the worst symptoms.
Timeline:
Day one, Sunday. Fiancé and I had drinks on Saturday so attributed my fatigue to hangover. End of the day rolled around and still felt bad/worse. Worry setting in.
Day two, Monday. More fatigue and muscle aches. Sinus pressure building and hard to sleep. Stayed in bed most of the day until my panic set in and I went to get tested. Results were of course positive.
Day three, Tuesday. Called off work and of course they're worried about when I can come back. Spent the day resting and trying to recover. Worst sore throat of my life sets in and makes it near impossible to sleep. My amazing fiancé doing her best to take care of me.
Start to call around for an antibody infusion since my asthma qualifies me. Was given several places to call... Half of them say I don't qualify because of the scarcity. Another few will only treat unvaxxed patients. After so much bs trying to get treated, finally get an apply for Thursday. It's amazing that nobody has anything sooner for a life threatening disease, but it shows just how many beds stupid people are taking up.
Day four, Wednesday. My throat has decided to wage war on me. Can't sleep, can't eat, can't drink or even swallow my spit without sending me into coughing and retching fits. At this point, it was time to go to the ER since I threw up every sip of liquids coming into my body.
2 IV bags, a CT scan, steroid shots, and strep test later, I'm still struggling but managing to breathe and swallow...
I'm worried just how it will progress tomorrow, but I'm thankful to get the infusion which should speed up recovery. I know it such a silly thing and I will survive, but I can't help but be terrified of a possible turn of events. I can't help but feel slighted... I've been good for the past 2 years. I've been as safe as possible, I've masked up and got my shots... Stayed home as much as I can... Yet here I am in the ER bed trying not to cry.
This is mostly just a post to vent and sort my thoughts out while my saline drips away. If people are interested, or if I need to restore more of my sanity, I'll update as my recovery goes.
I'm thankful to have the best fiancé in the world still waiting for me in the lobby after all this time. She's always been my rock when I need her. Stay safe people. And get your fucking booster or shots if you haven't yet.

Hang in there. There are idiots everywhere and it’s unfortunate that high risk patients like yourself have to suffer because of it.

Thanks. I hope the worst of it is over. Almost out of the ER and looking forward to hugging my fiancé again. Stay safe yourself too.
