This is an honest... inquiry, that I'm not sure how to ask (cis woman who wishes I was half as attractive as these ladies.) I feel guilt because my brain looks for masculine features, or tries to envision them before their transition, the same thing happens with trans men. I know that they are all men and women living as their true selves, and it feels wrong that I look for that. I honestly don't know what I'm even asking, maybe just perspective from our trans friends on imgur?

It feels like when I do that, I'm invalidating their identity by not just accepting it. I know a trans woman is a woman, and I'll throw a brick at anyone who disagrees. And yet when I know someone is trans, I look for features of their gender assigned at birth, and it feels really, really wrong.
I'm asking because want to be the best ally that I can be, especially as an American living through the shit show that's going on here.

Just looked at your profile and to me you DO look good. However, that's beside the point. Take it from a conventionally attractive person (according to the arbitrary standards of society), it truly does not matter what you objectively look like if you have internalized self-loathing. I am 31 years old and no amount of compliments has significantly made me feel better about myself. It's been so so so much work and I'm already miles further than I used to be, but it's still fking hard (1/2)

Being "pretty" sometimes seems like a silver bullet, and sure, it can help to some degree, but it just doesn't fix things. The same way that being ultra thin does not fix the body disphoria of someone with an eating disorder. And most importantly, as corny as it sounds, being beautiful is not just about physicality. I TRULY believe that it comes from all the other things that make you who you are (at least, that is how attraction works for me :) ) (2/2)

I'm not trying to sugar coat it, nor can I 'force' your view to change. It's perfectly normal to not like the way that you look, though. Hell, that's part of the reason I realized I'm trans. There are multiple ways to help with accepting yourself or shifting how you look to better suit how you want to look. But in the end, those that matter won't give a crap about how you look and those that do won't matter. That doesn't mean you fall into the latter category.
