TLDR-Just got laid off due to the pandemic. Trying to stay positive in the face of a lotta fear. _________________________Boss called a couple of hours ago and told me that because of the pandemic, the non-profit that I have happily worked almost 5 years for has had to lay off a bunch of us. Probably because I was the highest paid hourly worker in my group, I was one of them. I’m an old dude, uh, “Senior” (Ok, Boomer-just to preempt somebody), so I was already moderately freaked out by the pandemic, and since I’m a Doc, I know stuff and I should be freaked out, so, of course I’m now pegged to the max on the freaked-out-o-meter. All week we’d been reassured that the plan was probably going to be a paid furlough if it came to that, so I really didn’t see this coming. I’m worth what they’ve been paying me (It’s not bragging if it’s true!) and the company’s financial situation could have supported the original plan, but the Big Boss (Top Dog above my boss) knows folks at the highest levels of local government and spent yesterday in meetings and now this is the result. This has the potential to get really nasty for me and , naturally, I have very little control of the outcome. But I’m gonna continue to move forward, not let fears paralyze me, use the tools above, and ask for help like a smart guy. Thanks for reading and sending any prayers my way. Just writing this has helped some. Stay safe and wash your goddamn hands and stay home as much as you can.

I’m sorry you have to deal with this. But I appreciate the post as my personality is one that’s prone to stress and it has helpful advice.

Good today. Thanks for asking. I’m financially more or less secure in retirement, thinking about taking some classes and reasonably health and happy. Stay safe, friend.
