Orabase WITHOUT benzocaine (the one with benzocaine is shit) was the best thing ever, and I hear they can still provide it at hospitals, or other countries, but we cannot find it at drugstores anymore. My homemade solution:
-Buy powdered Xanthan Gum (purchased mine on Amazon)
-Buy unflavored Knox Gelatin and powdered Pectin from market
-Mix 2TB of gelatin, 2TB of pectin, and 1TB of xanthan gum in a ziploc bag. Shake it well.
- When needed, take 1 teaspoon of the powder, mix it with very hot water, teaspoon by teaspoon, mixing it well until you have something a little more liquidy than a paste consistency. Put it in between parchment paper, flatten it and put in the fridge for some time. When you're ready to sleep take a piece of it , which must have hardened to a gel-like thing, and place it on top of your canker sore. Try not to swallow it, and go to sleep.
- If your sore is in one of those open places (like the top of your mouth), make the paste and just put a glob of it there, no fridge time, and hope for the best.
+ There is a liquid Lysine from Quantum that you can also put a drop and see if it cuts the time for the sore to heal.
++ The best thing is to avoid your trigger(s). I found one of mine after years and years of suffering: Vitamin B. It took this long because it's not immediate; I would take a supplement or something with vitamin B and only 5 to 7 days later have the sore. But it's definitely one of my triggers, together with something very acidic like pineapple.
Hope it helps, because the pain! F*^# the pain!

Just gurgling with salty water works just fine !

I switched to zendium toothpaste. All that was needed, in my case, luckily.

Mine triggers with certain kinds of fast food grease but not often. Lots of acidic stuff seems to affect it too. Very inconsistent.
