Nah, this is an Australian thing. It has nothing to do with American fascists. We have laws for heritage-listed buildings designed to ensure that they are preserved as much as possible. I'm sure other places have equivalent regulations for protecting historically-significant buildings and sites.
It's a "standard" practice here in East EU.. A private investor buys a heritage building but it "accidentally burns" and ooops, not usable anymore. Let's demolish it and build 25 store apartment-office building on its place.
That's not what the Heritage Foundation is in the U.S. They're a group of pro-oligarchy fascists with extremist right wing views like limiting the right to vote to land owning white men, women are property etc.
