This is from my old place, the project was nearly done, all there was left to do was paint. I'd take a new video, but don't live there anymore. Oh, and my dogs name is Sweet Boy, figured you'd ask.

Critique is easy and I appreciate that you share, so these are just thoughts (pls disregard if it is of no use): 1) A lot of room behind the shelves at the left, 2) consider readjusting rails for better sliding, or get better rails, 3) I would prefer treated wood, linseed oil or whatever. 4) Apply rubber under the legs for less scratches on that nice floor, and 5) A construction that holds the mattress would be nice. I like the stairs :-)

I would never fucking sleep in something that fragile. Those legs are shaking, and they'd fuck up the hardwood without a foot protector.

Seems like a lot of work for a small Murphy bed.

Great! Neat and space-saving

First, Murphy beds are hella uncomfortable. Second, if you struggled to move the shelves with very little on them, how are you going to do it when they're actually being used? Last, this construction design is half-baked: those legs are going to kick out.

Half baked cuz this dude is FULL baked:

Damn dude, let him enjoy his project.

Depends on the design? https://www.studybed.co.uk/products/majestic-studybed/ is what my friends have in their spare room and it's comfy

Imagine falling asleep on the couch and having to get that bed outta there. Its couch sleeping night to me

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imagine having to do all this every single night…

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yeah, this was not well planned and reeks of jank and hillbilly.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Imagine doing this only one night

Man I so relate to this video and your spirit. Building and designing stuff like this makes me happy and get that goofy smile too. Never change bro!! Be happy.

It's a cool idea but honestly the construction looks absolute crap. I doubt it would even work when loaded with books.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seems like an overly complicated and rickety Murphy bed

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably ok if the only things you do in this bed are sleep and read. And Eat. I'm afraid that now, I have a full list of things I would do without fear in this bed, when I just wanted a classic innuendo.

Shouldn't need safety boots just to make your bed, but glad you were safe!

Is there a "my OSHA handbook thanks you" response meme yet? If but there should be

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sooooo.... can we at least have pics/vids from Sweet Boy, please?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Id never put it back up, and the whole thing would be for naught. Because I'm lazy.

2 years ago | Likes 342 Dislikes 2

Yeah, that's really sweet and all, but I'd just sleep on the couch

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, not to sound discouraging because it took a lot of work clearly so great job! however the process is too laborious to do regularly so you are basically left with one small bed and a bookshelf which is inaccessible behind another.

I'm assuming this is a "guest bedroom" that spends most of its time not being a guest bedroom.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I guess I might have been thrown off by the title if that is the case

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's for "night", not "naught"

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yeah I was thinking similar, you'd have to be motivated/self disciplined to bother with the faff every day. It'd be very good for a study/guest room though.

Don't be so hard on yourself! You're not lazy, you're just "apathetically weary" 😉

disappointed it didnt lead to a secret hiding place

2 years ago | Likes 197 Dislikes 1

I'm disappointed that the video was so long. The first 30 seconds could go.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well, technically it leads to his own subconscious while he sleeps which is by most a secret hiding place. You’re just not invited unless you’re a shrink or until inception’s suit cases are invented.

Uea, i was hoping for a soundprrof room that would basically serve like a sensory deprivation sleep pit.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or more book shelves... I need that... like Overboards shoe closet...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-lol- me too! I was so expecting that first bookcase to slide back, then over to reveal a hidden ManCave or something. (A portal to a parallel dimension would be too costly to maintain with the current cost of power, so...)

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That's why you power the portal from the other side.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Facts. However, that was my first choice.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those bed-legs though. DEF need a cross-brace or one vigourous-rollover later you'll be sleeping on a lean.

2 years ago | Likes 804 Dislikes 4

Came here to say this.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Skimmed the comments and thought you meant the guy. Get the right jeans and you'll need to build more kids' beds

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good thought. The video does a poor job of showing it, but I actually cut a 5° bevel on the supports so the legs naturally pitched slightly outward when deployed. Worked well for me, but a cross brace wound certainly have been stronger

2 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 0

Also a roll bar would give you greater stability in turns

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Id still suggest a cross brace and slats to keep the plywood from cupping. Less stress on the joints and you could dado a slot for it to slide right into where the legs meet the struts and snap it in place like lincoln logs. Either way, its a sick build

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Also, holes in the plywood the mattress rests on. You don't want moisture to stay there.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, HE didn't stay there, so I guess... -lol- (He admits in a reply, he no longer lives there.)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

NGL that is an elegant solution indeed, and should work well enough in all but the most "energetic activities". :D

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

Hopefully y'all are saving your energetic activities for something bigger than that tiny mattress

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Bigger as in atop a beached whale?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

You really think the size of that bed matters anything at all?

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Some of the best doesn't even happen in the house, let alone the bedroom. -lol-
