Not to mention $175 for parking. Like, what the hell. On top of excessive rent that only a small portion of the people in my area can reasonably afford, most apartments charge for parking. It's rediculous and I can barely survive as it is with the current cost of living

I feel like a strong case for false advertising exists here. You could easily sue a store or restaurant over something like this so why not a home rental? Take pictures and record everything then contact a lawyer. They'll usually let you know if a case exists without a charge.

That sounds incredibly fraudulent. Like they got a plan for the whole rental block at a lower fixed price, and then could charge the tenets more for someone else's service and pocket the change. I wonder if you could get the cable company to investigate it by saying, "Hey, these guys are making money off of YOUR service." Corps absolutely hate when people other than them scam people.

I lived in a complex that had a group rate factored into the whole building. While there was a mandatory fee/account with the provider due to it being a monopoly in the building, we had individual accounts w/ the provider directly so no one in the property management was pocketing off of a false margin.

Odds are the complex has a deal with the provider for so many apartments to have the bundle. Usually it's at a reduced overall rate, but depending on the deals wording requires so many people to actually use it. Which likely means it wasn't well negotiated by the complex if it's mandatory

Reminds me of an apartment I rented that had "valet trash" where you'd put your bin on the doorstep for some worker to come grab. It was mandatory and $50 per month. No thanks I can take the trash to the dumpster myself.

Yaeh my apart does that, but it is only $25 a month. Next time I move I'm going to ask the person in the office what all the fees are upfront so I know the real cost before I take the time to tour.

Yeah. At my old place they had a deal with Spectrum that was $25 off for all the residents and the more people who signed on the higher the discount (1 dollar off per household. It never surpassed $26 in my area where thete were 30 apartments.) I'm all for $30 internet

I assure you they do not. There *MIGHT* be grounds for false advertising, but they would have to fail a lot of tests in court for that to stick. Accidents happen, and the courts recognize that. Advertisements aren't contracts.

"False advertising is another matter." Colloquially, that's some pretty false advertising. But it's almost never successfully prosecuted in the U.S.A., no matter how egregious the claim. In fact, if the claim is egregious *enough,* it's dismissed as hyperbole.

I used to work at a very large travel software company (which is actually similar to Zillow in a lot of ways). It's crazy how much even Mom and Pop shops would gamify their pricing. A common one was setting the price to something stupid like $99k when sold out so that their sort order would be impacted. Could've been a mistake but they could've also been looking for a short term engagement boost
