I don't know if it was intentional but that little glance up towards the number 4 before he answers looked like he was checking the number so he could remember which piece of advice to say next.
Eh. A knife is a basic tool when mushroom hunting. That, and a small brush for cleaning the mushrooms before collecting them. If you google 'mushroom knife' you'll find knives that combine the two.
not sure who this guy is, but this is the second video of his i've seen in the last few days and i'd happily watch a few more. which honestly, puts him ahead of 99% of people making videos.
Not entirely true. There is one mushroom that I know remains of excellent edibility under the snow (in my region). Either it doesn't grow there, or is virtually guaranteed to have been eaten by humans or other animals come January. There are also mushrooms of marginal (typically 0, depends on exact type) edibility that grow directly on living trees which are available year-round. Here there are also berries that can remain (frozen) deep into the winter months. IDK about Latvian flora though.
There's something hilarious about the truth said with a straight face. Deep forest can be beautiful, but there's shit out there that will kill you, and if you don't take it seriously the odds of getting killed go up.
Sure! If you need somebody in the forest during mushroom harvest season, i.e. August September, October in some places, then they are likely harvesting mushrooms. But if you meet someone with a knife in January, they’re hunting you. Food tends to be scarce in winter, and cannibalism used to be way more common than people realize. Actually, I think it’s way more common now than people realize. Unfortunately.

You are wrong. The forest exit is this way.

Idk, that sounds delicious actually

Northern Europeans put dill in everything. It’s delicious. Roast fish potatoes mushrooms, with butter and dill sauce omg.

My brain instinctively thinks Latvia is near Croatia, even though I know it is actually way north, on the Baltic Sea.

Are there any vengeful tigers in Latvian forests?

Having tracked though and camped in Latvian forests. I can concur they are pretty nice, I prefer them over Sweden tbh.

Someone out is the woods in extreme conditions (January) with a knife likely means they are desperate for either food (you) or mayhem.

August - mushrooms. January - no mushrooms, no reason to carry a knife.

Unless you’re really hungry and hunting for some long pork.
