It's been a tough week imgur.
If anyone has experienced being married to an alcoholic, I sure could use support.
I'm going to Al Anon for the first time this week.

It is a change for everyone involved. You can do this.

"SOBER"= "Son Of a Bitch, Everything's Real?!" Eventually, with work, discipline, and success, the shock wears off.
Rimasticus
Time to start raw dogging reality.

See if you get get a prescription for Antabuse. It makes you feel like you're gonna die when you drink.
PRoseLegend
Is that the same as Campral? My partner has started taking that for the cravings.
FlyingButtPliers
Nope. Campral fixes your addiction brain neurotransmitters. Antabuse breaks down alcohol to prevent buzz and make you sick.

PhoManCho
Good job getting the support you need. Hang in there

I've been reading as much as I can about supporting loved ones with addictions. I decided to stop protecting my loved one from the /1
PRoseLegend
Consequences of their actions. And that includes keeping their drinking and behaviour when drinking a secret. I need friends, I need support
PhoManCho
Not that I can do much as a random internet stranger but if you ever need someone to just vent to, reach out.
Rimasticus
Honestly, fix the reason for drinking. Not ignore it. If it's stress/depression, have them see a psych. I now take an extremely low dose...
PRoseLegend
Yeah that's part of the plan. If this relationship is going to work long term, he has to see a counsellor and work on his issues rather /1

Than drinking and only ever talking to me. I can't help him, he has to get professional help and want to get better.
Rimasticus
Of xanax and it helps a lot more. I see myself wanting a drink less by taking one. not a heavy drinker, but was finding myself needing one..
Rimasticus
After some days of work. Yes, it's switching to something different. But as drugs go it's better to take that minimally then drinking.
FlyingButtPliers
Be careful with that. If you give in and mix xanax and alcohol you can die. Not guaranteed, but you can stop your heart and die.
Rimasticus
That's most meds too. Not just xanax.
aluckygrl13
I can vouch for that 100%
