Control arms, ball joints, sway bar links, shocks and tie rods can be easily replaced. It’s the subframe being damaged that gets messy and expensive.

True. However it’s easy to bend what is bent, much harder to damage the subframe. However, many insurance companies may insist on changing it because it was scratched. It all boils down to cost of repair vs value of vehicle.
