If we hadn't tried to steal their oil (and all the things we did in service of that goal), they wouldn't have a militant theocratic regime that hates us.
Not entirely true, as while yes there wouldn't be the fuel crunch. But fuel is only one product line that comes from crude oil and natural gas, there are thousands of products derived from them, many of which do not have alternatives. So renewables will reduce the fuel democracy, but there are still a lot of other dependencies. Such as nitrogen fertilisers, which is made with natural gas and a large portion of the production is in the Strait and has been badly disrupted.
It has been a national security issue for decades, including from the viewpoint of the Pentagon. Republicans don't give a fuck what happens to this country.
They dont... we already make more than half of what we need every day, and for cost and environmental reasons significant production capabilities are not in use... have not been since the 70s. Pushed to it we could meet our own needs, just would not make as much money for the oil company's. That is what this is about. Keep the price high, and costs low let all that margin flow to the .1%
Obama tried to get us to improve the electric grid so we could use those renewables across wider areas. Things the conservatives bring up about renewables all the time. Storage and transport of electricity.
But you also get lies, I have loved in the same apartment building for 8 years, I was told when I moved here we have solar power and was shown the panels and generator, I got a note on my door yesterday saying the power from the local power company will be shut off Tuesday for 8 hours for maintaince on THEIR system, so why is my power going out?

Oil is not the issue. Iran has nuclear ambitions and must never be allowed to attain that capability.
