OP, i believe teaching children religion should be "child abuse". i saw my friend's daughter who became radical born again christian, saw her explain to her 8 year old sister how she must follow jesus or little sister will burn in hell, suffer, tortured, torn apart... and the 8 year old went into a panic attack screaming and crying.

I used to think church was bad for people, but then I meet some Mormons, and they value their family above all else. They are super close with them. They are never drug or alcoholics. They are always super pleasant to work with (I work with some) and they care about people. Yeah the whole brainwashing into it, can’t make their own decisions arguments aside. But there is something really wholesome about them. The more I get to know them the more I think they are onto something. Good people

So, this is only my limited experience, but religion organizations can have bad actors just like any other human organization that makes the whole thing look bad. But if any religion were true and it was doing good for people in ways other organizations didn't, wouldn't there be some significant difference that we could point to? Any organization 'can help many' and some churches/ temples/ places of worship do and some don't. My opinion is that it's a net negative.

I'm willing to agree that there are benefits present in activities that are traditionally claimed by the spiritual. Meditation, music you mentally/ emotionally connect with, intense and intentionally quiet, and maybe even prayer or chanting a mantra to help with focus and resolve. But yeah, as a broader organization that connects money, it's just grift after grift.
