It's frankly a relief to see good news from the US! I was following the primaries every now and then, and this election was an important step in taking back your country.
Hopefully, one of many more victories to come. His speech was inspiring, he is quick-witted, funny and incredibly eloquent. He gave the status quo Dems a huge loss against their favourite candidates. With a huge margin.
Most of all, he showed the Democratic party a masterclass in running a grassrots campaign, and how it can beat truckloads of corporate money. A campaign built on unyielding empathy, and how that empathy must drive us to defend those in need if faced with intolerance and hate.
I know it sucks right now, and everything is looking dire. But this is a win that shouldn't have happened, after all the money invested into keeping you hopeless. I'm truly happy for New Yorkers, and how this signals that change needs to happen, and *can* happen, even when everything looks grim.
Congratulations!
Edit: his victory video is adorable. Brad Landers and Zohran, Brad getting a huge applause from Zohran supporters. I'm not USian and it put a smile on my face!

Don't take this as a win, take it as a step, this is a VERY small move forward while we are steadily being dragged back. NY needs to stand on business again, as do the rest of us, when any election comes up. We got here because people didn't show up, this is proof that your vote matters.

Why do I fear the democratic party will fight to make sure he won't win the mayor race just because he is a democratic socialist like they did for Sanders. The democratic part needs to learn from this race what people actually want and WAKE UP VS FIGHTING IT

Look at this win, and see how you can take the democratic party from those assholes, one local election at a time.

"It's guy love, between two guys"... Brad Landers inner monologue in that picture, probably.

Having a progressive in such a high profile office such as NYC's Mayor could be an energizing lift for other progressives on a National and Federal level!

Considering the policies he wants to implement, from rent freezes to state-funded groceries, it's incredible how he got across the finish line. I'm happy because I hope the US will be better in the future.
Man, dude had a history of criticizing Israel, railed against them, and still managed to land a win and connect with jewish New Yorkers.
He is onto something here, a new playbook even AOC can learn from.

His energy helps too, I haven't been this jazzed up about a candidate since Obamas first campaign. He's giving people a reason to hope and believe again
InTangier
Indeed it was contagious, people were talking about it even in my country. Also reminds me of Bernie's first primary, the US was making me proud. Good to see that energy again, even stronger, resulting in an actual victory.
You can almost hear billionaire asses clenching at this.

Good lord, was Cuomo really the “establishment” candidate? What crazy fucks were backing that POS?

The smoldering wreck that is the DNC
Ninjainslippers
You seem to not understand the Democratic party. These are the people who reeled Kamala Harris in when she went a single inch left of Biden because they were trying to get the votes of two undecided voters in Michigan vs the tens of thousands of leftists who hate them.
InTangier
This. Made her flip her stance on immigration, validating the GOP's made-up issue. Talked about price controls, who got progressives pretty hyped, then proceeded to drop the policy altogether. Pretty much the DNC in a nutshell, no commitment to to policy, standing for the aesthetics of progress instead of meaningful change.
They always prefer to try to get the right wing vote when they'll always be perceived as dirty commies lol she'd compromise with MAGA to avoid folks like Zohran popping out.
InTangier
Yeah, they really put their weight behind him, and he apparently still had some pull with the party. Even after the multiple SA allegations... if I recall correctly, even Bill Clinton endorsed him. Which is kinda... Ew.
Meanwhile, Zohran got Bernie, AOC, Shawn Fein from the UAW hyping him up. Dude even got Al Sharpton shook. The overconfidence that they could just ram the noxious Cuomo despite all this energy around Zohran proves *they just don't listen*

And more importantly, people actually showed up to vote and put in their voice for the candidate they wanted. It shows a big shift from last Nov where people sat on their thumbs and whined and didnt vote.

This, this race was fascinating, and proof a progressive can win against overwhelming odds death threats, smear campaigns, etc on the merit of his actual, concrete policy. He is pretty clear on what he wants to do and how he intends to deliver it, and New Yorkers decided they liked his policies better than Status Quomo's "experience".

Hopefully this is enough of a wakeup call for other areas of the country. The Corporate Dems of the 90's aren't what we need.
triggrhaapi
Fuck need, it's not what we want either.

And you sent a clear message. I did a quick scan of the reactions from major news outlets, and man, are they pissed lol. Trump singled him out, which worked wonders in increasing AOC's profile. He is shook, and even Fox is having trouble spinning this without making him sound even more badass. Which is always a sign he is doing the right things.

I just hope that this doesn't turn into the leftwing iteration of the tea party in the sense that the Dems just absorb the grassroots movements, but then again, the GOP absorbing the Tea Party has lead us to MAGA which is a pretty profound movement, albeit repugnant and disgustingly hateful and destructive.
