Turns out the only guy who can shoot wick is blind. Damn that's dumb.

I had a holiday in Japan end of 2023 and one of the places I stayed at was a hotel in Shibuya that should have been torn down years ago. The aircon was antiquated and depending on the time of year, no other considerations, you got either hot air or cold air. The stand out aspect for me was one of the male Concierges... apart from being Japanese and white, he WAS Charon in voice and mannerisms. As soon as he greeted you you knew you were home and safe.

I was suprised to see him in the new Percy Jackson series, was a very welcome suprise.
neonoptic
He was a great actor and moreso he was pretty big in voice acting as well. He will be missed, 100%.
graehall
Lance Reddick was a BONKERS talented actor he excelled at drama, action, comedy, utterly absurd comedy. The world lost a gem when he died :(
cakeycakes
Take care of your health everyone. It legit can come bite you anytime. Lance Reddick was an absolute gem. It will be bizarre to hear someone else play Zavala.
MilesNiveus
I love these men. However. That is a TERRIBLY unfortunate hyphenation.
chevymonster
Oh good, it wasn't just me!

Surely there's a better way to write redick instead of red-dick?
BenjyX55
Remember when, whether we wanted it or not, we stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars?
thetinymonarch
I know people here don't like tiktok but I remember when he passed and seeing so many tributes to him and his character in destiny. So many communities rallied to support and morn his loss.
ctotheg2
60 is a terribly young age to pass away.
dakonsept
Lt Daniels...
THESHADOWOFJECT
Lance was such an amazing actor he was the highlight of the absolute horrible resident evil show.
THESHADOWOFJECT
and before anyone says anything. I would have stopped 5 minutes in but I watched that whole GOD DAMNED show.
phalanaster
He was 60??? He did not look it
Grinch01
Damn he was really 60 years old he looked more like 45 and he was a really good actor
Br0doSwaggins
I remember seeing Lance Reddick's name in the opening credits for Godzilla vs Kong, but then he only had like 10 seconds of screen time.
LaurenLikesStuff
Lance Reddick does amazing in the new Percy Jackson series. I’m so sad we won’t see his version of Zeus more in the future.
SteelKnight
We are losing groundbreaking black actors at relatively young ages an alarming rate these days :( some real favourites of mine have gone too soon
CheesecakePi
Y'know, coming from nearly anyone else, that would come off as false modesty (because really, Keanu and creatively ridiculous action scenes make for a ridiculously fun time, and are why we love John Wick). But he's actually sincere. And that means a lot, for Lance Reddick to have inspired admiration and respect in such a person. RIP.
Ivalicenyan
He's dead? Since when?

A couple of days ago, you may be thinking of Carl Weathers. Lance Reddick passed in March last year.
PacerStacktrain
"I once told him... Well, actually I wrote him a letter and I said, 'people love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick,'" Reeves said of Reddick's John Wick character and performance. "Because that character loved John Wick, that made John Wick okay. And so when I got to act with him, we had such an affection."
Hammertulski
Reddick absolutely took the character from being just another NPC who had vague backstory but intense familiarity with Wick, and made it into a role that added real depth to the world. The subtle shifts in how he acknowledges other assassins and representatives - it’s really well done. Without it, the Continental would have been entirely resting on McShane to carry as a believable institution.
UneventfulLover
Of course the Continental could not rest on McShane alone. For a (fictious) hotel to be believable, there MUST be a concierge of this caliber, because our imagination demands it. Someone who knows everything, will get you anything and ask absolutely no questions. And never flinches. I absolutely love Reddick's performance in that role, so sad he had to go.
Isthe4thtimethecharm
I agree with you but somewhat disagree with keanu. I loved John Wick from the moment he was defending his dog. That being said, I don't know if that feeling would have carried me through all the movies.
rbudrick
Well said, Hammertulski. He truly made the sequels more watchable rather than the comic-like sorta-sometimes cartoonery they became. Wonderful gravitas.
Subaruislife
That's what hooked me with the franchise. The world building is really subtle without ignoring details.
Ardranor
i mean, it was in the first one..
BHPaperstacks
Exactly. The second they had every homeless person as a secret assassin, I went, "Well this got dumb."
CarpoolTunnelSyndrome
What an unfortunate hyphenation.
chefthad922
Twice
ThaxtonSpringfieldTheThird
Fuck you for making me laugh in this context. +1
StarscreamAndHutch
Is it unfortunate or insightful?
Hairymonkeyman
Twice. They did it twice.
briham86
That’s the rule for hyphenating. Have to do it at the syllable break. Can’t be Re-ddick or Redd-ick, has to be Red-dick. The only solution would be to reword sentences to avoid a line break.
HEARTS0FSPACE
Strange that they wouldn't make an exception in this case. I mean, a lot of articles are filled with typos and poor grammar, anyways.
DreamPhreak
Or just put the whole word on a new line with any hyphenation or rewriting any of it
RichardPotato
Hyphenation is not mandatory
HIVp0sit1ve69
BaklavaWearingBalaclavaWhilePlayingBalalaikaOnBlackLava
I never knew that and I do hyphens at whatever character count fills the line.
lrateyourrig
The whole paragraph is comprised of two sentences, on being 70% of the paragraph (262 characters!) ya they could trim: "Keaneu Reeves accepted the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards and spoke to People magazine at the ceremony, where he revealed he once wrote a letter to the late actor in which he credited Reddick with making John Wick so popular." (257 character with the removed characters coming before "Reddick")
lrateyourrig
and if you really wanna chop thihgs up "Keaneu Reeves accepted the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards, revealing to People magazine that he once wrote a letter to the late actor in which he credited Reddick with making John Wick so popular." (228 characters)
Badprenup
But more importantly, they aren't going to ever do that because they didn't put the hyphen in to begin with. They don't think about that kind of thing for web articles because there's thousands of people reading it with thousands of devices, all in different resolutions and fonts and different zoom levels. Hell, they don't even really think about that for print articles because it wastes time to look for and the worst case scenario is a one out of every 500 reader saying "oof, weird hyphen" lol
Alistairetheblu
They didn't say it was incorrect; just unfortunate.
number2commenter
Just like an awkard thing that happened with gf at home- coming in front of everyone.
number2commenter
And it didn't break like I had wrote it.
CarpoolTunnelSyndrome
I applaud the effort.
BitRoyal
But isn't 'Redd-ick' more accurate to the syllable break? We don't pronounce both D's.
eidam655
i'd wager re-ddick but YMMV
CarpoolTunnelSyndrome
I like to pronounce every D I can.
BitRoyal
Kinky
Gaelwyn
Exactly. It's redd ick not red dick.
