Anchorage, Alaska - Alexandra Ellis got 74 days in jail for vehicular manslaughter*.

*...and by vehicular manslaughter, I mean that she was drunk, underage, high on drugs, without a license, at night, driving backwards (for fun?), and hit a man on a bike, didn't attempt to help, and left the scene of the crime.

Bonus: She didn't immediately go to jail because they didn't want to upset her current life.

Source: http://www.adn.com/crime-justice/article/anchorage-judge-says-alexandra-ellis-heads-jail-may-2-after-she-finishes-college/2016/03/15/

Summary: Her 4 month initial sentence moved to 74 days for good behavior.

And yet I personally know people who have gotten far longer jail time for selling a plant, first time offense. Ridiculous.

What a cunt.

How do judges not blast people with maximum sentences for such twattery?

They've got to get donations for their re-election campaigns

The officers knocked on the door of the residence where the vehicle was parked and Ellis answered, according to court documents. (1/3)

When asked if she knew why the officers were there, she replied, “I do. I don’t know what to say besides please arrest me.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I’m a horrible person.”

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

She got to go to the state fair with her family while she was "in custody" which counted towards her time served.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I wonder how much time the family would get for punching the judge? I seriously doubt it would be less than 74 days.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

They should try it and find out.

My best friend when I was 8 was hit by a drunk lady and dragged a few feet. She got her license taken away and served ZERO jail time.

I cannot even comprehend what the judges were thinking.

@Mumblety ...and that sucks. I'm sorry for your loss.

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

We need a new, very selective plague.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You see she is the new epidemic the shitdemic

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that is like 7 different crimes at once each of which could have gotten that as a punishment alone?

10 years ago | Likes 895 Dislikes 1

Yeah but it's a she so not really

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

More like it's because she's fucking rich. This has happened before with rich and influential families with their sons before.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Im from Anchorage, there's more to this story, but yes she received an absurdly light sentence.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

Except for the murder. That would've been worse.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well they cancel each other out. Like BEDMAS, or some shit.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is what I don't get.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, sadly, being drunk and high probably even counted as mitigating circumstances.

10 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 1

yeah that is why it is a manslaughter charge but there are like 3 or 4 other things they should have charged her with to add prison time

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

It's a manslaughter charge because she didn't wittingly kill someone. That it was at night helps her a ton. Being underage also goes far.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Yeah, I mean, I'm not saying what she did nor that the choices leading to it were smart, but it was, still, an accident. Tough case.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

@NotThatJoeYouKnow isn't confused why it's manslaughter. He's just saying she should've had more charges against her with more prison time

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Story says it was at 10 am the next morning and she had a BAC of .10. My buddy did a hit and run on a parked car and got off worse than her.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also believe that the story said she was 18, not underage

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and black people get life in prison for fucking weed possession. im white and all i got was a 'lol dont smoke this again kids ;)' wtf

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

Shut the fuck up with your race inserting bullshit. Plenty of white, brown and yellow people doing life for weed

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

no agenda here. call me misinformed but im just going off of what i know.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Life for possession? Is that stacked ontop of a murder or some shit? Life is more like trafficking or intent to sell (with other charges.)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, typically possession with intent to dist. Look at Oklahoma's marijuana laws. Absolutely fucking insane

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Didn't Dexter move to Alaska?

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

And now she moved out of Alaska.

I purposely lied, don't worry. Nothing spoiled.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Judges sure do like going easy on rich college kids who do despicable shit. If only judges were, you know...just.

10 years ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 10

I knew a middle class guy in college. Was on probation for vehicular manslaughter. Probably served about 8 months? I thought that was crazy

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Judges do not sit in a justice system. They sit in a legal system. We live under the rule of law, a binding set of rules that we agree

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

either apply to everybody or nobody. What is just is too personal and subjective. That the law has wiggle room for sentencing does not mean

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the law was not executed in this case. Maybe it sucks. Maybe what the law is offends your personal sense of justice.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You do understand that most judges were rich college kids who did despicable things?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Even if they didn't do bad stuff themselves they definitely will "relate" to that type of person more and would be more likely to be lenient

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What's the point of keeping people in cells for the rest of their lifes?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

To protect the people on the outside. Also revenge.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Justice system isn't about revenge, fuck off with that shit. Lot's of prisoners can be trained back into society as well.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't say it was right. Just that that is what part of it is.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it isn't. Revenge isn't part of the justice system.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If she's underage, presumably she was also tried as a juvenile, which would explain most of this.

10 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 7

She's 18, so given the severity I doubt she should have been tried as a juvenile.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

She was 17 at the time of the incident

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

i am sceptical about this post too , could you elaborate some more ?

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

She. Is. 18

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Meanwhile juveniles in my state can be tried as adults for minor offences committed in school.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

States rights! Don't you feel more adequately represented??

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually they can't release names of minors and information about juvenile court cases unless they're being tried as an adult.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Shes an adult now, but was a juvenile when it happened

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even at 18 now, she could have been tried in Juvenile court. In Maryland, you can be in Juvenile court until you're 21. But IDK about AK.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He was most likely referring to underage consumption of alcohol

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Which can take place after you become a legal adult (18-20 years of age)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The article OP linked says she was 18 (legal adult) at the time. Literally the second sentence.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

17 during the time of the incident... I think she should be tried as an adult

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, it says, and I quote "18-year-old Alexandra Ellis". That means 18 at the time of writing. The incident was in 2014, FFS.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

shhh.. never argue with the bandwagon pitchfork mob. Also the sentence is not atypical for the crime.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Really? 4 months for vehicular manslaughter is typical?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1st, Alaska doesn't have vehicular manslaughter/vehicular homicide statutes. It's just regular ol' manslaughter. Her charge was negligent

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

homicide, which in Alaska is a Class B felony (Manslaughter is class A). Alaskan sentencing guidelines for first time Class B felonies are

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1-3 years. Add in the fact that she was a juvenile at the time, was remorseful to the police, calling herself "horrible" and asking to be

Wtf are you even saying?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we not make this one about hating women, please.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

In this case it was more about how rich and influential this woman's family was.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

But her sex also has a role to play. OP of this comment thread is correct, there's a HUGE sentencing gap between the sexes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Race and gender may have a role to play. White women are perceived to be more innocent, as compared with woc. However 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

White women get shorter sentences than white men. Black women get shorter sentences than black men...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Class status and wealth are better indicators of influence.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't wanna ruin her life for MURDERING A PERSON WITH HER WILLFUL NEGLIGENCE

10 years ago | Likes 259 Dislikes 6

No, because then we would have twice as many ruined lives.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 45

So crimes should not be punished because punishment 'ruins lives'? What kind of logic is that?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ah, the one minimising the total harm done, especially the bit that was entirely avoidable? How fucked would you like things to end up?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If we took that attitude towards every crime (especially murder), how quickly do you think the occurrences of those crimes would increase?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The current attitude doesn't appear to be connected to any decrease, so...not much.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I say, we ruin one, and others may think twice before doing stupid shit like this.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm just going to repeat it since the truth has been downvoted: "MURDERING WITH WILLFUL NEGLIGENCE" is literally a contradiction in terms.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If Hillary can get off for criminal negligence....

It's hilarious watching all the left people get completely upset when you mention anything Hillary or race, I will gladly take the downvotes

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 21

Pretty big martyr complex for a spambot. I'm not a Hillary supporter, you're just a dingbat. Post your political crap on Facebook.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

You seem to be having a reading comprehension issue here, I won't try to explain sense into someone who has none though. Stay mad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 16

Spambot? Fuck off.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Ruining her life would be revenge, that won't bring the guy back, and does nothing good for society. So, no.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

It's not "revenge" if it's carried out by the justice system.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And sand the message to other scumbags: "let's do whatewer you want! Ewen Alexandra walked away from murder! What wrong can happen with you?"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If she left the scene, the judge should have added Hit-and-Run.

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

The plea deal she took meant that charge was dropped, as far as I've read anyways

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The judge can't add charges.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, the prosecution?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That judge didn't even try to give her a meaningful sentence.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't see how her life being "disrupted" trumps the life she ended. That's some bullshit

10 years ago | Likes 2410 Dislikes 9

I can't go to jail now, I have a party next sunday.

10 years ago | Likes 192 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah its bullshit

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, I wish Trump's was the life she ended.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 10

The life she ended can't be disrupted anymore... That post makes no sense.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Let's see if her father writes a letter saying how much she 'suffered' (Brock Turner case)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No sense in being a bother. She's only killed a bloke. And he was riding a bike, how much could he matter?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It can go both ways. My mom was run over by a Hispanic guy with a list of felonies he committed before he turned 18. He drifted across 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the road, hit my mom, and took over 100 feet to stop. He called police and stayed. They claim there was nothing to charge him with. Florida.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jesus, fellow/fella-Floridian, I'm so sorry. That's a weird place to be. Good/weird he called/stayed? But he got off? Gah.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't this what the judge said about the college rapist that got off super easy cuz they didn't want to ruin his college or something?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm getting sick of rich, privileged little fucks committing terrible crimes and getting off over fears of "upsetting" them or whatever.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This was exactly what was wrong with the Stanford Rapist. Media focused more on his sullied reputation than the sullied victim..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion, but I think being sent to prison would perpetuate her behavior, not stop it. Ending a life is punishment enough.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 15

Typical imgur. Actual unpopular opinion is posted and the "disagree = downvote" button is pressed. Enjoy your crime and punishment CJ system

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Unless you're a spoiled piece of shit who feels zero remorse, as tends to be the case.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Did you even read the article? She told on herself and was in shock, saying she's going to hell, crying her eyes out. That's not 0 remorse

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not for her and the rest like her its not. You actually believe those people feel bad for taking another's life? Money and power are 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

2/2 God sir, as we all know and there are no morals when it comes to it

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Read the article. She felt fucking terrible for it. Why perpetuate her criminal behavior and issues? Get her real help, not punishment

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And wouldn't anyone's life be disrupted by going to jail? Isn't that the point of jail?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I gotta say, she's a dirtbag but rehabilitation is more important than prison. That said, she clearly needs monitoring and counselling.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

Thank you. The obsession with ensuring that offender's lives are also ruined is really not helpful.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

People mistakenly equate justice with revenge.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

So where is the justice for the family of the deceased when the punishment is "we fixed the offenders drinking problem!"

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

The big misconception with revenge is that it'll somehow lessen the pain of your loss.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Agreed. Excessive punishment (and I'm not saying that her sentence is excessive) won't bring anyone back to life, and will only serve as...

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

...vengeance and not punishment. By all means punish her, but don't fuck her over.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Uhm, being sentenced like everyone else would not be fucking her over

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Surprisingly common with 'good white kids' they say shit like prison would do more harm than good and they have so much potential.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Looking at you, BROCK TURNER

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Have you seen what a few years will do to a person?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 18

Have you seen what a few years in a coffin will do. Tell that to the man she killed.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not saying that prison fixes problem behaviors (it doesn't). But everyone needs to be held to the same standards, and repercussions.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Agreed. So giving her the standard sentence for this sort of crime seems fitting.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(which is about 2 months)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but it fucks up life for poor and minority kids as well. Never having consequences also fucks you up, in a different way.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Honestly... Waiting several months and then going to jail is worse than just getting it over with... Speaking from personal experience.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

I think the important point is that it's these rich white kids that get lighter sentences because of the worry that it would hurt their life

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

And not middle class white kids or black people of any class.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Donte Stallworth. Money doesn't have color.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, to be fair, who would you give the harsher sentence to? First time, or repeat offender?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

What does that have to do with anything? If she wasn't rich or was black she would have gotten the sentence she deserved

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

If a first time offender would be a young black guy living in an impoverished part of the town, would you say the same thing I wonder?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Instead of being malice over semantics, both are still a violation of a person's rights, u feel better?

I'm not "being malice" over semantics. There was physical harm. That's more than just violation of rights.

Lol they down vote this comment but it's just absurd if you think "rich people" whatever that means... freely extort the law on the regular

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The more money you make the more rules you have to follow. Duh why do you think you are poor in the first place? It's hard to succeed

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

But hey all you "poor people" (college students with lots of opinions) feel free to bribe public officials when you finally make it big.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Since that's how you think the system works. You've read a lot of Chomsky so I'm sure you know what your talking about.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

OJ was black. Has more to do with money than race.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

California will not convict famous people or cops even with video tapes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh Please Somebody always has to make it about Race here you can take this http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/btt.gif

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

I know. It's not as if racism exists on earth anymore, or that the statistics aren't always corrupted by the Illuminati.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do you have to exist

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

It's because of MONEY and POWER that the legal system will go easy on her, it has always been this way, Not the colour of her skin.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

What skin color has the vast majority of the wealth and power here? It's not directly about race, but it is a result of institutional racism

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

if it was a girl of any race who came from a family of money and power the result would be the same. The system is against poor people.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, my point is that she is much more likely to be born into wealth/power if she is born white, and thats wrong; cuz institutional racism

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You bitch. Don't delete your shit because you're getting the dv's

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I hope it becomes more and more unpopular to be a race-baiter, that shit is causing so many issues and its getting really old.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

lol always somebody in the crowd that makes it a racial thing when it's just fucked up.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

BECAUSE IT IS, DIPSHIT! Sister in law has not seen jail time despite committing so damn many crimes it makes me sick.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

this is a racial thing? it's not about her being from a rich, influential family? really, dipshit?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They White peopled the shit out of that for her.

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 35

They riched people the shit out of that for her*

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

They rich white attractive female peopled the shit out of that for her*

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

No. Just rich. OJ got away with murder. It's what class you are in. Not race

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not that I agree with you, but do jokes often fly completely over your head?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, white people go to jail less because they commit crime less.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 22

Nope.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

"Nope" doesn't change facts.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

What facts? The invisible ones you provided? My bad, I didn't see them on account of the invisibility.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No they dont. They commit less violent crime

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Touche.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Black rich people don't do jail time either *cough*OJSIMPSON*cough*

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Michael Jackson *cough* Bill Cosby *cough* Kobe Bryant *Cough*... It goes on.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

These are all celebrities, i didn't know this white girl was a celebrity

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

The point that flew over your head is MONEY. Even poor celebrities don't skip jail time. Stop race baiting.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what does that even mean?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

you do not get the reference then.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

I didn't get the reference and still got the reference :p

I really wouldn't say she's from an important family. Her dad is a rich lawyer here. No one in our class knew who she was till she was gone.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(Two of two) how terrible u r is better than any length of jail sentence. Hopefully she changes her heart despite Any amount of money/time

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's your explanation

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you have no idea how hard it is to be young white girl. The system is rigged.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

(One of two messages) Even if she is a part of a rich family. She can still feel true remorse like us poor folk. True knowledge of

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a bunch of epic Fuckery. Shit like this happens in Ketchikan as well.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then what are you upset about? Laws don't apply to them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i don't see a problem then. capitalism that has rid itself of any hint of solidarity - it is what people want, apparently

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

That must be why poor little Sarah Palin ran away from being governor. Couldn't handle the corruption *sarcasm*

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ha, the rich kid at our school who thought he was the shit got his tires slashed every time for calling kids niggers

For what, you fucking psycho? Being a lawyer? Representing a client? Having a child who broke the law, like all parents of criminals do?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Oh goody, a witch hunt. She was a juvenile when the crime occurred and she pleaded guilty, so you're going to target her father. That's sane

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

Her father is friends with the judge who basically got her out of trouble. I know because I live in Alaska.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I like the glitter idea

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sending glitter to her father who, I might note, was not her attorney. Because of an action his juvenile daughter took. Ok.

It's the rich part, not the white part. If she was ethnic and was still rich it would be the same result

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Money does play a role, that's correct. Acting like her being white doesn't definitively play a role is being extremely naive.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes if you look in a prison I would wager well over half of them in there couldn't afford a decent lawyer. They relied on a public defender.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

And most of the time the public defender didn't even ask about a plea deal. Same office that pays the prosecutor pays the public defender.

No... it means you get sentenced to the letter of the law.... She didn't get off scott free, she got a sentance in line....

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

There shouldn't be a lawyer alive capable of pulling this shit. People can be exceptional at what they do and still have moments that (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

What do you mean exceptional? Couple months is standard for DUI/Biker death. There's precedent to follow here.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh honey, you think that the lawyer doesn't know how to get the judges pockets filled?
