#1 Makes no sense. If the sun is visible and you know what time it is, you know what direction you are facing.

You'd be surprised the # of people who don't know east/west or north/south in their own neighborhood. Ask around sometime.

Most ppl do know where the Sun rises (although not that it's East).Face East, then turn left. Alternately, find Polaris on the night sky.
