MagiQuest wands are plastic wizard wands with an IR emitter in the front. By shaking the wand it will transmit a signal that allows you to interact with objects when playing the MagiQuest game. I made this project as a way for my kid to play with his MagiQuest wand at home. My son is also obsessed with Minecraft so a chest seemed like a good object to enchant.

I used wire-wrap to mitigate risk of mis-wiring while getting everything connected.

Nice job! But why a DC-DC converter? And what chip drives the stepper?

Because they are cheap and easy to use. The chips are ATTINY85's which are also cheap and easy to use.

I know, but im just curious, if youre running everything at 5v, why not have 3xAA batteries? Those converters arent efficient at low current

Also be careful driving the stepper directly with the attiny, they can only output 20 mA max
