The Bible was written by men, inspired by God. Perhaps what a day is to God is quite different than what we consider/define as being a day.

The church actually founded some of the first universities and heavily encouraged scientific endeavors. The young earth thing is fairly new.

Evolution is not incompatible with Christianity. The method of creation is never defined. There are a lot of scientists who are Christians

Evolution isn't bio-genesis. Two different things and AFAIK neither is incompatible with the Christian creation myth.

Atheist here. The big bang actually came from a catholic priest - Monseigneur Georges Lemaître. There can be room for both.
