the Library of Celsus at Ephesus

The library of Celsus was completed in 135 A.D. in what is now northern Turkey. Celsus is buried under the library, making the library a mausoleum for him! It was designed to hold 12,000 scrolls, although now little of the building survives and the manuscripts lost. However it is known to have been three storeys, perhaps with an oculus at the centre top. Cool right!!

This is the view across the site of Ephesus. The library is viable on the bottom left, and the amphitheatre at the top right. Its in such a beautiful location!
