There is a common belief that our devices are constantly listening in on our conversations and that leads to startlingly targeted ads. I don't know whether this is true or not, but have we considered the possibility that we are constantly being barraged by a scattershot of advertisements so incessantly that we are only noticing when one bursts through the static and shocks us with how deeply personal and intuitive it appears. We don't even realize we are swimming in the haystack until a needle jabs us in the eye, which is a possibility that I find almost as troubling.

I got an ad on my phone for Temu, and it showed a jacket similar to ones I've been shopping for a while. I wondered if it knew I had been shopping for that style and displayed it, or if I just see so many Temu ads that one was bound to hit close to home eventually. Then I realized it didn't really matter, either way it was a sad reality of modern life and our interactions with advertising.
The picture is unrelated, I saw that in a store, read it out loud and thought it sounded funny, haha
