Not only did they suddenly decide we're all in arrears of varying amounts, but they also decided this charge was from 2022, meaning we also owe two years of late fees. And they're not answering their phones, while sending us aggressive texts demanding we call them.
salunatics
Sorry for the BS you'll have to deal with to get that cleared up.

Talk to a lawyer. You may be able to sue for grievances and lawyer fees at the end of everything

Lawyer up!
houghten
I have been advised by my lawyer not to post my true thoughts on this matter.
Fuck my lawyer. Beat your landlord to death with a shovel.
Vallete
Ok, got your fuck and kill, who do you marry?
ChaosPersonified
As your new legal council in this matter....hand me a shovel.
Seriously, report these bastards, this is just low.
slinkiisu
I had to use all my restraint not to send my initial email "answer your fucking phones before I come down there in person"

Rent doesn't get reported on credit scores, I thought
eppykaze
Rent is eligible but not required to be reported. As such most landlords never bother with the extra administration work. One of the main reasons that banks wont consider renter history in regards to mortgages, even if the mortgage would be of a lessor payment.

If you fail to pay and it gets sent to arrears?
fractalsphere
If you're in the US, typically rent does NOT get reported to credit agencies. If they decide to report a late payment, get your credit reports and make sure they've ALSO logged all the on-time payments (you'll see a line of 1's I think). Also as other have properly recommended, lawyer up.

UK

Lemme guess, NO one in the complex kept receipts.

We have evidence of every month's rent, and the time they charged us for a utility overage, agreeing to take it from our deposit. But they also made up random amounts to charge each of us, including the two people who paid their entire year's rent up front, and therefore cannot possibly be in arrears.
friendsofsandwiches
Gotta wonder if you can get the city involved in dealing with this BS.
slinkiisu
I'm in the UK, we do have some pretty strict protections. But now I have to spend my day off finding emails and shit.
Lyconous
It's a shitty way to spend your day off. Let spite be your motivation
friendsofsandwiches
really hope your courts and/or government can spank them HARD when this gets done.
