What is this?

Jun 5, 2017 11:09 AM

Been finding these little bastards in my house. Should I be worried? I'd take a better picture, but after I got that one it flew toward my face, I swatted, and now I can't find it. Help?

Looks like a dirt dobber to me, they kill the fuck out of spiders, the only down side is they make there nest out of mud along walls.

That is most certainly a 'Nope'. Usually in cases of infestation fire must be applied.

I think that's a type of wasp called a "mud dauber'. not aggressive. It's looking for a good place to build a nest. (Out of mud.)

Hmm. My googling of that makes me feel a bit better. Haven't been stung yet, so you may be right. Thanks.

Looks like some kind of Hymenoptera. I think they are all predators so it may be good to have them.

I think you're right, but the question is whether they provide any benefit worth the risk of stung in the taint when I get out of the shower

That's an Indigo Ear Wasp. If you hear buzzing at night that her laying her eggs over your eardrum. Cool find!

+2 for creativity, -1 for freaking me out a bit right before I go to sleep. Net gain.
