After many scheduling issues and months of waiting in between games, I decided to end my current campaign early. It's not a decision I wanted to make, but I was getting tired of the constant rewriting I had to do to keep the game going with people dropping in and out between each game.
I'm taking time off from a serialized campaign and am going to do some one-offs so that everyone can still play without the pressure of holding things up if they can't make it.

I stop trying for long run campaigns last year. I only do themed one one-shots now. (Some of these run into two sessions.)
We focus on things we want to do, and everyone loves making new characters. Although we did do a triptych run with the same characters but at 4th, 8th, and 12th levels.
It's been much easier for me, because I can focus on one cool thing, and maybe a cool mechanic, and just do it. Hell, I had never before gotten the chance to run a CR 24 dragon, but now I have.

Had a very dodgey group with lots of last minute cancellations I played in. DM was fed up and I stepped in with a new campaign. Was basically a monster hunter guild, fetch or hunt down monsters for ingredients for the wizard patron. Skipped the travel and camping to get to a 2 to 4 "room" location. Traps and fights. Was able to do these one shots in about 2 1/2 hours. Overarching story was wizard was the baddie and other groups started confronting them. Twisted reveals kept them engaged...

Always ended session back at home base so folks could tag in when they were there. Did crafting or downtime activities via text or discord. Worked out pretty well and once that 10 months was over and they finished what I had for them, worked with OG DM to create a different version of the 1 quest per session model. On year 2 of his campaign.
