One of his major heart valves failed out of nowhere and he needs emergency surgery, but his lungs are extremely weak from over 60 years of smoking. He's my rock, the person who's kept me grounded through all of the crap I've been through, and has been the biggest supporter of my becoming the legal guardian of an at-risk minor. He loves her, and she calls him Gramps.

If he doesn't make it, I'm lost.

I'm sorry, I'm just venting to the void here, but I need to say something somewhere, and I don't really have anywhere or anyone else I can talk to. I've gotta stay strong for my mother and my sister, that's what they need from me. But inside, I'm close to losing my mind.

UPDATE: Sorry it took so long to get back to y'all, folks, and I really appreciate all the love you've shown me. Dad made it through the operation ok, there were a couple of complications that popped up the next day and he went back to surgery. Everything was successful, and he's currently in the ICU on a ventilator. The docs hope to take him off it in the next day or two, when he'll be moved to recovery & rehab.

Meanwhile, I've been running around like a madwoman looking after Mum, taking care of the stuff Dad normally does, and babysitting my nieces & nephews so my sister can help out, on top of my own life+work. I'm very tired, but things are looking up. Once again, thanks for helping me clear my mind, listening to me vent and offering support. Love ya's.
