As a colorblind person, yes this is true for a lot of things. But for me it's spinach, lettuce, other greens. Fruit is easy to tell ripeness though. About feel, sound, smell.

Way back when I was in high school one of the teachers keyed me in to how to tell when the gym teacher's wife was out of town. He was very colorblind and when she was out of town none of his clothes matched.

My dad’s colorblind. My stepmom helped him re-do his wardrobe and put symbols on the inside of all his clothes. He went from dressing oddly to sharp dressed man overnight. I remember how much he beamed whenever anyone would compliment him on his outfit, which happened often after that.

Yes 100% smell it, done it ever since i was young. You will also be able to tell which ones to avoid because of the pesticides you smell. I can also tell with cheese for example if it aged naturally or was treated to get 'old'. And remember, animals all do it that way, so why don't we?

I had to stop doing it during covid because it wasn't exactly socially acceptable to pick up and sniff food at the grocery store in the middle of a pandemic, but yeah 100% the smell is what gets it. I could probably pick good produce even in pitch black darkness just by giving it a good sniff
