Back when they thought a new ice age was coming. They actually had a plan to dump coal dust on the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps to increase solar radiation absorption and help melt the poles. Forgive me if I don't believe them now either...

How did they discover the Northwest Passage in the 1800s if the Arctic has never melted before? We give ourselves too much credit.

Don't believe them. Go to a library, check out some peer reviewed journal papers. Read. Repeat.
