California poppies, blue thimbles for the hummingbirds and bees, native milkweed for the California monarch butterflies which need help out here, and am trying to grow California Coastal Live Oak trees in the pots to give away to those who want one. Any advice would be appreciated.
More poppies and sweet four o’clocks taking over the place. Also have a couple of types of bird of paradise plants. They produce lots of nectar for hummingbirds and two breeding pairs of hooded orioles. Have to put 3 mason jar sized hummingbird feeders now that the weather is heating up.
Monarch laying her eggs…
A caterpillar emerges then feasts only on the native narrow leaf milkweed I seeded during last fall. A dozen will eats all these leaves in no time.
Then the hand upside down and form a chrysalis. About 2 weeks later the emerge into adult butterflies. These creatures do have enemies…Tflies will lay eggs inside the caterpillars and do not survive. Less than 50% make it in my yard. Have to let nature take its course.
I also grow peas, green beans, peppers, lettuce and tomatoes in a raised garden.
Delicious salads are thoroughly enjoyed.
Male hooded oriole at my feeder…
He is gorgeous!
Surprisingly, *sparrows* enjoy the sweet nectar. Thanks for pointing out my error?
