Memorial Day Burgers and Beer

I know, that's fish, but I didn't get a picture of the burgers and beer before they were all gone.

My son is old enough to ask what memorial day is about. Life in general is about burgers and beer. You meet with people, you laugh, you tell stories, and you share burgers and beer.

Burgers and beer deserve to be protected and sometimes that means going to war. Some people come back to enjoy more burgers and beer. Some people left not knowing they wouldn't have another burger and beer. So we meet with our friends, and we tell our stories about our other friends, the ones who aren't here with us, and we share burgers and beer.

Sometimes it's not so easy. Sometimes the person who came back isn't the person who left. They've seen things, they've experienced things.. Things people shouldn't see or experience. Health care is a joke and the VA is an even bigger joke within that joke. Mental health care? That's the butt end of that joke. Some people come back but they can't get the help they need so they turn to drugs or alcohol and end up in a dysfunctional life. The person who left no longer enjoys burgers or beer either, and we meet with our friends and we tell our stories about the friends we haven't seen or heard from since they got back, and we share our burgers and beer.
