Hey, Imgur! We're here because we wanted to let you know that X-Morph: Defense - the game that we've been working on for the past 5 years is finally out. If you haven't heard of us before (you probably haven't) - we're EXOR Studios, the team responsible for Zombie Driver and D.I.P.R.I.P. (a Source Engine mod for Half-Life 2).

We introduced X-Morph: Defense in one of our previous Imgur posts(http://imgur.com/a/Eurql) and received a lot of positive feedback from you guys. You wanted to hear more about the game, so this time we're here to show you how it turned out.

In X-Morph: Defense we combined an intense twin stick shooter with a tower defense game. We've made sure that the shooter part is especially satisfying by making the entire game world destructible and giving you plenty of weapons to blow stuff up. We've talked more about all of the weapons and abilities that are available in X-Morph: Defense in a previous Imgur post.
http://imgur.com/a/HA6eb

The destructible environment is something that we are especially proud of. All objects in the game can be destroyed. For example, if there's a huge skyscraper that is blocking your view - charge up a dark matter bomb and cut it down. If you destroy the bottom part then it will collapse. If you blow it up in the middle, then it will break apart. We calculate the tension, compression, etc. to simulate of a given building should collapse.

One of the best things about the destructible environment is that it influences game play. One of the core aspects of the game is tower defense. You can block your enemies paths using your towers, or you can do that by collapsing buildings and blowing up bridges.

We wanted the whole environment to respond to your actions, so we've also created a special system for bending trees that makes them respond to all shockwaves from explosions. Trees can also catch fire and if they are standing close to each other then the fire will spread making a whole forest burn.

One more interesting mechanic that we've included in the game is gathering debris. All of your enemies break up into lots of individual pieces that can be gathered for additional resources.

A game about aliens wouldn't be complete without huge towering bosses. Humans are desperate to destroy the X-Morph and they are willing to sacrifice their cities. During these battles, you will be able to use the environment to your advantage. Collapse buildings to divert a boss or hide behind a skyscraper to avoid being destroyed.

We 've almost forgotten to say that there's also split screen coop included. You can play the entire campaign with a friend sitting on the same couch. There are additional enemy waves in this mode so it's worth replaying the game.

If you are still reading this and are interested in checking out the game you can learn more about it on our website:

Thank you for all of the support Imgur!

Put it on the Nintendo Switch!

While this is effectively an unpaid ad, I'm strangely okay with it.

Can I play with some one not in the same couch

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, this is right up my alley. I'm buying it on PS4!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sure others are wondering as well: how many hours of gameplay can we expect from the main campaign?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

10-14h on average. Depending on your play style.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

That last pic... destruction porn so good it makes Michael Bay change his pants.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

ok but important question, with all your research into building collapse, did bush do 9/11 or did bush do 9/11?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for not actually being some kind of generic boring retro retro indie game you see a lot of these days.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Looks amazing only judging by the style already.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This looks incredible!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of future cop LAPD, loved that game when I was younger, will check this out.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Future Cop was awesome :) We played a lot of versus split screen in it :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow. Advertising on imgur seems to be the next thing for game studios. Guys, this is not "one of us", this is a professional account.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 18

The ad shit is rising on this site. Imgur is turning into floater poop

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

Who cares? I'm down for good game suggestions at least and if something goes through usersub it's hardly gonna be bad.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Better than yet another dump of 200 reposts.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this looks fucking amazing :o

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PUT IT IT ON PS4 PLS

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And it is excellent!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

u must be frothing from excitement

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Now I like games, but why are all of these game developers doing free ads on imgur

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

TBH, Valve told us that they won't send out a message about the game's release on Steam so we had to send out our own message :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because they can...If they are willing to risk the downvotes...Why Not?

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Because free ads on a website with of a lot of gamers

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

To be honest, I'm glad they do. There are so many bad games on Steam nowadays. When a game gets this many upvotes, it usually deserves It!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not all game developers have money to advertise their game like others do. So sometime they have to think outside of the box

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Because it works!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Because it's free ads, on Imgur. A lot of Imgurians are also gamers, perfect target audience.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Because they know a part of the community would be receptive to this. And they're right. Besides, this is as OC as it gets.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Someone has no idea how powerful social media is...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I bought this game from this post and I am very happy with it. I'm glad they did.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks amazing! Just watched some YouTube gameplay....just bought a copy on Steam!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was playing this yesterday. It's pretty fun and has a map editor, apparently. Not the biggest fan of campaign, the aliens talk plainly not

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

So much earth invading aliens. More human with a voice changer, but that's just me. Past story gameplay is solid. should be fun to perfect

Same, I got the email saying it came out and I was sad I couldn't get it now. But there's a sale in 4 months!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yes, good luck OP. Sorry I am not a gamer. If you release a new porn film or erotic game let us know.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 2

Is it possible to get it on gog or something? I just don't like using Steam if I don't have to. Looks great though!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not get, but we are working on it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll be buying to support you guys, I haven't had time to play in too long

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When I get home later today, I will own this haha

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Whoever programmed the tree sway in response to shockwaves deserves a raise... that may have sold me on this.

9 years ago | Likes 691 Dislikes 1

It is pretty cool.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's even like the individual leaves respond

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That's just part of the engine they used (UE4), but yes it's cool.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Hey, this is not UE4.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is Schmetterling Engine:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XULqtPtX28A

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dope

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So they made a whole engine for this game? That's impressive.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! He will be very happy to hear that :)

9 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 3

Holy shit, you guys made Zombie Driver?! I played the shit out of that back then, I'm definitely checking this one out too :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Top comment entitles him to raise

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bought this immediately from android, remotely installing now. Looks amazing. :D

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just wanted to personally say, I purchased you game day one, and I haven't regretted my choice! You guys did wonderful!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the non-functional details around your UI is kinda tacky. You should think about streamlining it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

What non functional? Those seem to indicate progress of some sort, health, and cool downs.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Left one seems to have something to do with charging based on damage done to enemies.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

All the little spikes and border chunkiness.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh the decorations around the UI stuff. Yeah thats just a preference thing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How DARE the UI not be stark detailess status bars! Really, it reminds me of the old school shooters man.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mesh colliders or different animations based on blast force?

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Flying helicopters also modify the wind vector and bend trees. Calculations are distributed on multiple cores. Each tree bends individually

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's a custom vertex shader. Our engine calculates wind direction in every frame. Shockwaves modify the wind direcrion vector

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

depending on the engine they're using that function was probably already in there and is probably a vertex shader based on vector

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I love vertex shaders based on vectors.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

one of the RGBA channels of the vertices on the trees is a gradient with zero value at base vertices.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Interesting I've been using unity3d but haven't done much with shaders I need to step up my game lol

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I understand some of these words. Like "trees." Totally know that one.

That is correct.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno it just says they are also working on an engine. Not that they used their engine for the game.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's our own engine called the Schmetterling.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I learned from the different languages videos awhile back that thats butterfly in german :) :pats own back: wind specific/chaos theory nod?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nice Good luck all

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks epic! Can 2 friends play coop from 2 different computers?

9 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 0

Thanks! Sorry, co-op is only local on one computer or a console.

9 years ago | Likes 125 Dislikes 7

I'm appreciative y'all have made local co-op at all. It's a feature that many, many games have forgotten about. Thanks.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Modders will always find a way.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Xbox?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. It's in new releases now.

Its on xbox, ps4 and whatever our supreme overlords use to play games

.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well you guys might be the last to have couch coop!

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 3

There's lots of local co-op games on steam. Gang Beasts is an amazing party game, and only gets better drunk.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Risk of Rain, Gauntlet, the Trine games, Broforce, Guacamelee, Worms games, Monaco, etc etc

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Enter the Gungeon, Genital Jousting, Samurai Gunn...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out cup head it comes out this month and is only couch coop

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Couch co-op is good n all but you should really invest in online co-op, I'd love to play this with a friend. Looks awesome

9 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 2

With physics this complex synchronization over Internet would come with compromises. LAN is somewhat easier though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adding online coop is almost like making an entirely new game. Developing games is way harder than players realize.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

nah, we get it (in a vague and fuzzy way). we're just saying it would be a really great addition.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fair enough, and I agree with that. I've become a bit biased from years of making games and hearing players complain, lol. You're cool. ^_^

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks! We'd need an extra year of development to add online.

9 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 3

LOl no online? jeez its not 2010

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Do you even know what it takes to develop a working online multiplayer system?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kickstarter a year's worth of development for true multiplayer, trust me, you'll get funded. Just make sure all your fans know about it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do it as a free addon download to those that already brought the game or anyone that buy the game in the future.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Totally worth it. Trust me. This? Coop? In Steam? Gold.

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Please, take the time. kickstart it or something for funding. This looks amazing and I would love to play with my siblings.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hope you'll be able to implement it. Sincerely, a couchless gamer.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This looks so amazing and I am willing to wait a year or more for a good co-op! Please take your time <3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would it be something considered as a side update later down the line? If not, game still looks awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ditto on that. My husband and I both play online and with friends. Would contribute to help seen online coop

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hope you guys are a hit, looks cool. Game dev is hard work.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I would buy this for me and a friend with Xbox one co op

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The thing about co-op is that it makes people recommend your game to their friend, just an offline one won't do that though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Get to it OP, chop chop. Nice game btw.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

this is what add-ons/patches /expansion packs /etc are for. I'm definitely getting this game, and looking forward to seeing new stuff later
