That's a previous sale price behind that, not the normal price. The video is completely misinterpreting what's going on here, but the thing they think is happening *does* happen. It's just. Not this.

I work at Target, most stores got shipped the Black Friday 7x11 ism late. So we were instructed to print them on regular sale ism until the shipments arrived. That is the lower price that was promised in all the ads. The sale started Sunday for most items, others were one-day sales, those were all set out with the correct ism. People are literally complaining that their Black Friday prices lasted a week.
That certainly makes sense. Then that would imply the depicted store location is a lazy slob and did not want to remove the standard sign template so as to not have to later go around the whole store again and replace them all again. But we want sales that make sense, not misleading nonsense.

I think the veil was lifted in during the pandemic when people literally had no money to spend (or infinite dollars if you were a barely sentient tortoise) and people actually had time to track prices of things they wanted for Xmas, and nothing got cheaper. Also. Websites have been around for 2 decades. Price trackers are easy to find.
It depends. We needed a new mattress this year, so we scrounged local sites. Most weren't great, but one local store had a great sale plus free delivery and placement. It was a better deal than we've seen in the last year, and probably the only way we could've afforded one for the next year or so (and we've needed one since about 2021). The trick is not so much salivating as keeping an eye on things you already know you need, to see if they're worth it.
Generally I say it's only good for things you were going to or considering getting anyway. Need a new TV? Better to get it on Black Friday vs other days (of course avoiding gimmicks like above)

Most sales aren't sales. We went to both the Toys 'R Us and Circuit City going out of business sales. Stuff was marked down at MOST 2-5% over where you could buy it elsewhere but all sales were final, no returns or support. Not quite worth the risk.
You really have to want something to find the good sales. Like dig real deep, mostly on manufacturer websites. You won't find anything but these cheap eye grabs if you just browse through the big retailers

We sometimes see a deal we didn't expect, and quickly look it up to see what other stores have it listed as. Very rare for those unadvertised deals to be worthwhile. This year, Target had a toy our 3yo wants, on bf sale for $25. Walmart had the toy regular price for $20.
