A few years ago, a depressed Imgur friend told me they'd like a gentle nudge for cooking and cleaning every now and then. So I'm obliging any Imgurian who wants that little nudge.
Today's invite is pants-optional and one level of challenge.
L1: Only spend 15 minutes on a bigger project.
For example.
This mess. Ugh. It's in my bedroom. I am sorting shirts and there are dozens of shirts to be rehung, and on top of that last week I picked up 7 months of ignored drycleaning. Everything on a wire hanger needs a real hanger and I just dread starting.
So I don't.
I set the timer on my phone. 15 minutes and quit.
The interior closet. It's pretty sweet.
Task one: get control of the wire hanger population and herd them into this nifty container. I stepped on one the other night in the dark. Not cool. Took less time than I thought to organize.
Most of the short sleevers had been sorted and I just hadn't returned them. Again. Less time than expected.
While removing shirts from wire hangers and hanging them in the closet, I felt enough at ease (time pressure) to color coordinate, which I prefer. I kept thinking 'any minute the time will go off' but it didn't. I worked efficiently but did not hurry.
I was holding the very last shirt in my hand when the timer went off.
Holy cow. This only took 15 minutes! I've been avoiding this because I didn't want to "get into it." I feel so much better looking at this now. I feel relief.
If you can't, then don't. If you can, find your deeper mess and spend no more then 15 minutes. Maybe it won't be as big a chore as you think. Again, if I invited you to the movies, you'd say no for whatever valid reasons. Same here. Say no if you need to.
I know I'm posting late at night but consider this a 48-hour shelflife invitation. Or longer.

Instructions unclear. Did a big closet sort/purge for 4+ hours and did not finish prep for Monday.

I've been avoiding this mess for easily two weeks. All for 15 minutes of cleanup.

You did inspire me this morning: my water heater sprung a leak last night so I'll have to call a repair man asap - but my apartment is a pig sty right now, esp. after being sick for three weeks. I was standing in the kitchen when I read your post this morning, so I used the time waiting for my tea to steep to start decluttering the counter - and already it looks so much better! Now for the actual cleaning...

Most of my inspired cleaning comes while waiting for water to boil or something to cook on the oven top. Hope you're feeling better after 3 weeks!!

It's started getting a little better since Saturday. Stupid newfangled bugs. What was wrong with the old bugs?! Still overly tired, so now I REALLY hope that's only because of such sustained lack of sleep and not because I've acquired some kind of Long RSV. :/
I did clean the kitchen and started on the hallway & bathroom, so there's that. Will have to do the rest tomorrow night after work. Blehhhh. *whiiiine*

Whine?? You're kicking ass. You're exhausted after three weeks of illness and STILL managing to clean and have plans for the next phase. At this point in recovery, I'm usually still complaining and begging for someone to bring me a cool beverage and snacks. You're doing great.
