The 17-year-old trainspotter decided he wanted to make the next viral video for his YouTube channel. After setting up his camera, BNSF surveillance video shows the teen throwing a track switch. Minutes later, the teen recorded the freight train coming down the siding where it collided with an empty coal car then derailed.
The train engineer noticed the switch was in the wrong position and applied emergency brakes but could not stop before the collision.
As a result of his actions, the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult.
