I used to be a cold warrior, too

So they made us set up an antenna in a deep puddle, which froze that night. All in all, it was a fun trip.

About a week of icy grounds, cold tents, cots.

I've never eaten so much consecutive shit in my life.

But seriously, I feel bad for anyone who has to hack it in this shit without a tent.

FYI these are all from Korea around 2010 time frame, if you're curious.

Using any Harris radios?

I feel like the graphics in the real world are pretty good, but suspect significant lag...

As someone who has participated in multiple winter field training exercises in Grafenwöhr, you have my condolences. Iron Soldiers!

is a frozen puddle really the best place to be setting up electronic equipment?

No. But we usually got shat on, which is what happened here. We had a few feet of clearance so we were fine.
