It is way too easy to confuse cashiers. Bill total $5.67, give them $10, then after it's rung up hand them $1.02 more. Confused look.

I agree, I had a girl close drawer with out giving me my change and I had to tell here what change to give because she couldn't do the math.

2/2 most retailers will make the cashier pay it back out of pocket... not legal, but what can they do? Lose their job out of principle?

That all depends on where you work. Some places care about 20 cents, some places don't care about $50.

Most places, generally, in my experience use $25.00 as a basic. anything under $25.00 nothing, anything over, you receive a formal writeup.

As someone who cashiers, you only get in trouble if it's a lot or if it happens often.

One place I worked they would ignore it up to 5 bucks, past that they'd write you up. Past 20 they'd fire you on the spot.

My store is pretty lenient though. As long as you're a good worker they'll overlook a lot of stuff.
