I'm sorry, no Tia Tax today. We've had an emergency and it's no one but my own stupid ass fault.
With all the stress and running around trying to deal with life, I was exhausted this morning. And like the absolute fucking moron I am, instead of giving Spitfire her daily thyroid pill, I accidentally grabbed one of my partner's hydromorphone pills. I didn't notice until I saw her swallowing a pill that was the right size and shape, but very much the wrong color. Panic set in and we rushed her to the vet. There is no one to blame but myself. I'm an idiot, and I just hope spitfire doesn't have to pay for my stupidity.
I probably won't be up to posting for a few days. I don't know how we're going to deal with this but we have to find a way. This isn't Spitfire's fault and she doesn't deserve to suffer for my idiocy.

EDIT: Spitfire has been given a clean bill of health and she can come home in about half an hour from when I'm updating. Catching it so quickly is the only reason they were able to treat her so quickly and so well. We're going to be spoiling her for the rest of the day.
EDIT 2: She's back home, and the vets said she's doing really well. She's resting and little sister Tia has already given an inspection to make sure she's okay. I'm now going to try and eat something and hopefully keep it down.

Elbowdeep's jokes aside, yes she has hyperthyroidism. She's been getting treatment for it for the last two-ish months.

I see. My elderly cat had the same condition, and instead of risking her health with potential side effects of the suggested medication, I went with the treatment the Feline Hyperthyroidism Treatment Center, which was a targeted radiation dose. It worked out well and she's had a much better quality of life as a result.
Downside, she had to stay at the center for a few days until she was safe to come home. She was still radioactive, and she promptly forced herself into my lap when we got home.

I don't know the effect hydromorphone has on cats, but the only thing I associate with it is a pleasant high and dosing off for a few hours.

A normal dose, perhaps, but this was a dose for a human. Even the vet said it was 10x what the maximum dose they would have used on a cat would be. They had to essentially give her the pet version of the medication that EMTs give to human overdose cases.

Here's hoping your cat will be fine, luckily it doesn't appear to be toxic by itself so hopefully the vet can basically just narcan her and she'll be right as rain in no time.

That's essentially what they did. It was still a very expensive emergency visit, but the important thing is that she's safe and home and doing well.

my reply is still valid - there is an entire planet's 'place' outside of america and unless they have a time machine then time is moot. If they do have a time machine well any time for the past few hundred years at least woud be when society is mostly civilised and didn't need guns to enforce civility.
