“The algorithm” seems to have bred video still frames to have usually dopey looking people looking shocked and whenever I land on page of these things I close the browser quickly. I don’t want to see people (even marginally attractive people) in a video about a game or, well, ever. Something about it triggers me, like they’re suddenly able to see me. Little people with confused faces like Tucker Carlson faces with choice of toad living in my phone, eating my battery and trying to sell me cheap fidget spinners and screwdriver sets.

another thing i hate is the video format of "person talking into camera". i hate it. just write a fucking text if you dont have any visuals that aid the thing you're trying to tell me. i dont care about your goddamn face!

I find it tacky and as pathetic as clickbait and pandery as baby talk.
...and I also wonder if my dislike of it is due to me possibly being on an autism spectrum.
I've wondered if this was part of why I got so heavily into anime, back in the late 80s, too.

OP is discovering user made thumbnails for videos

I know that it’s part of the composition of the story they’re selling. The algorithm isn’t generating the thumbnails, it’s training content producers that they’ll benefit when other people access their “dopey face” videos more than not. It’s a form of (un)natural selection.

Children in the comments here be like "but Youtube has ALWAYS been like that!"

Boy, don't go to a site called 'youtube' then, ever.

I don’t, I really don’t. But enough people must find it compelling for it to be spreading like that.

They suck. The algorithm sucks big time.
