Normalize mental health awareness. Know when things are not okay, and find out before things feel bad what you can do if things get bad.

#48 what does it mean if you check all the boxes? I have two kids; one diagnosed with anxiety and the other with ADHD & we would have thought they were the other way around. When I read this, I think if they switched doctors, they’d probably switch diagnoses?

There is a lot of overlap between autism and ADHD. And usually not fitting into the norm causes people to develop anxiety and depression. The doctors may switch diagnoses if you switch, or maybe there's just a lot of overlapping symptoms due to the dysfunctions presented with these neurodivergent 'disorders'. 1) If you have health insurance, please get the kids officially assessed by a psychologist. That will help narrow down what to help address. 2) read my other comments, please! Good luck!!

Was such a big oh/ouch for me. Hard to find psych to do adult autism assessment where I live. Here's hoping to finding more answers and solutions! Depression and anxiety have kicked me around long enough.

There's no evidence I've been able to find backing this, unfortunately.

#42 um... what do i get if i get a blackout on the bingo card? therapy ain't cheap lol

Not quite a blackout, but damn that hits way too close. Personally, I tried alcohol. For 20+ years. Didn't really do it, except making living barely tolerable. Worst thing is, I feel like I actually had a pretty good childhood and my parents are both still close. IDK what's the matter with me.

I'm sorry you went through this. And just because we might have had a peachy childhood, doesn't mean depression and its ilk can't hit us with the doldrums. See my comment replying to the other person. Addiction is no joke, and is usually a tool to self-medicate. Therapy or group therapy helps us uncover ways to self-regulate and break our old habits and patterns. Hope you are on your road to recovery! Identifying your problem is the first step to finding solutions.

1) Find therapists who offer sliding scale, 2) see (if you have access to health insurance) if seeking mental wellness resources is partially covered 3) crisis support lines - keep the number handy jic you get hit by the blues and need someone to talk to 4) the best thing about learning what went wrong in our childhood is that we can be who we always needed growing up. Be kind to and patient with yourself, and seek ways to grow. Address trauma with a specialist. 5) good luck!
