Typical arguments among the comments: the people who advertise "everyone is on a spectrum" can not tolerate opinions on a spectrum, only black and white. After a few attacks, being called nazi and a phobe after 2 sentences, the people with nuanced opinions get alienated and will react to the topic in a more negative manner than before. Someone should save minority groups from their armchair activists.
This is a good example of how making stupid statements in the service of good intentions negates the intentions. It's very possible trans women are too "strong" to compete against natural-born women and too "weak" to compete with the he-men of the military, so the argument doesn't challenge either scenario.
1) The military targets low-income communities with low-to-no chance of advancement 2) The military promises opportunities & security 3) Military recruiters lie to get you to sign up
I don't think this paraphrasing sums it up correctly. To be more precise, I believe the argument would be along the lines of: people born with the physical characteristics attributed to male biological sex are 'too strong' to play sports with people who were born with the physical characteristics of those born biologically female. Hope that helps clear at least part of this confusion up!
We both know that within that persons life they've met men who were weaker than women they've met. They know this, its just it causes their entire world view to shift if they don't have that binary understanding down.
Don't forget that they want women in women's restrooms, and not men, but they'll force a "woman" who's taller and more muscular than me, with more hair and a full beard, into the women's room just because they can't read changes to his birth certificate made in the past ten years.
I am all for people being who they wanna be, I do have concerns with sports and bathrooms. I have friends who have been assaulted and are afraid of being in closed area with men even if they are transitioned and I can’t say that isn’t a reasonable concern. As for the military it’s dumb to restrict anyone in that basis.
I don't really think your concerns are warranted. A) I'm taller than most women, should I have been restricted from high school basketball? B) This just seems very similiar to the same way that men were concerned about gay men in locker rooms. C) I included a picture of a trans man here, I don't think your friends would be more comfortable with him walking in. Plus, women's bathrooms rarely lock, men could have just walked in to assault women.
Oh see finally someone who can have a convo with out making assumptions. I am not worried about school stuff really just professional end sports or Olympics where men who transitioned into women. You don’t think that might be a bit unfair at all to them? The bathroom stuff I’m not a girl I say how any of that changes. I do know men are capable of dressing up as women and trying to peep who arnt trans. But that’s about all I could say on it doesn’t bother me having trans men in my bathroom
A transwoman has competed in the Olympics, for weightlifting, she didn't medal. I don't think the point of sports is for the bodies to be fair, else we can't let Phelps compete in swimming because he has a body perfect for swimming.
Why would a man need to dress as a woman? Trump admitted to walking in on women and girls changing, we just make you president for peeping on women.
I think you should talk to more women, alot will tell you the men who assaulted us didn't need to play dress up.
Well fairness is gender based that’s why they separate men and women. Men are just in general more athletic and stronger. So the question is is it unfair starting off as different sex giving an unfair advantage in any of these sports. I get it’s all just bodies but even if you transition you still arnt the same as if you were being born that gender. It may not even apply to all sports but you could at least see why some womeb might feel it’s unfair. (1)
That's why I brought up the transwoman who competed in the Olympics, if there was this major unfair advantages, she would have a gold medal. That's not even addressing the other trans women who have already competed in pro sports and didn't dominate all the cis women.
Also, you are saying that fairness is based on gender because men tend to have higher ruppee body strength but if someone has a body perfect for a sport how is that more fair?
(2) I think if the sports leaders themselves determine it’s fair then I don’t have any issues with it honestly. I’m sure they would have done all the research to ensure fairness
I am not sure going around and asking about woman’s experiences with assault would be appropriate lol. I’m just saying what I have heard about it in conversations on the subject. I’m not a woman but I mean doesn’t seem like an invalid concern to have as one. But not everyone is gonna feel the same either so I get that. To be clear I never said no one shouldn’t be allowed to do either of these. I do think there is some valid concerns but I don’t know enough either way to really say what’s right.
I mean if you're gonna suggest you speak for some women on the topic of assault, not knowing their perspectives seems pretty inappropriate. I explained why they would be invalid: Men don't require pretending to be trans to assault.women, never have; We have no actual evidence trans women present an unfair advantage in any sport base don their document performance.
I'm not saying their can't be any valid concerns, just these ones aren't.
"with men even if they are transitioned" So, trans men? Or are you really so fucking incompetent, ignorant, & generally bigoted that you regard trans woman as "men"?
What about me saying I have some concerns and saying I have female friends who have been sexually assaulted who have said they worry about people who where once men going into a bathroom with them, comes off as being against trans people. Go play the victim somewhere else.
"I have concerns that all transwomen are just men preying on women and using it as an excuse to after them in the bathroom, but I'm an ally!" lol. You're parroting Fox new's worst take on this shit, the literal pedophiles argument about "someone think of the children" while using OTHER WOMENS suffering as your fucking excuse. You're all kinds of a fucking monster.
Play victim like the female friends you made up right here? Because we all know you made this up. We have ACTUAL friends who are women who have been sexually assaulted and they aren't worried about "people who were once men". That line itself tells us all that you aren't friends with trans women and DEFINITELY aren't an ally.
Also I will add attacking people who support trans and gay rights who has some concerns about perhaps unfair advantage in sports and about potentional abuse of the bathroom situation isn’t going to help your cause much. What do you have an inability to have an actual conversation over something? Just gonna go straight to insults? feels awful maga like to me honestly.
Oooh, & there you go into the "respectability politics" angle. Your milquetoast "I support trans people but..." reveals you really don't support trans folk. In short, you own actions have signaled you are both unqualified to "have a conversation with" as well as simply not worth having a conversation with. You are far too in love with the transphobic propaganda to treat with respect.
Now, if you want folks to engage with you, you need to be a hell of a lot more humble. You need to recognize your gaps in understanding & learn how to politely ask folks to help you understand how your perspective is flawed if not dangerous. Currently, you're playing the victim when you face the consequences of your bigotry & seem to want to treat people's attempts to educate you as an argument to be won.
You know what, second thought, go fuck yourself for fucking roleplaying. You're parroting the ENTIRE MAGA WHITE SUPREMACIST narrative of "we have to protect the little girls, all transwomen are just men trying to prey on women" you're literally parroting NAZI PROPAGANDA from NAZIS and then like "I support Trans rights" well maybe stop promoting the narrative used to limit their rights. The bigoted lie, same fucking argument with gay people back in the day. You're a boring bigot.
They are fucking bigots. They're literally making the white supremacist/MAGA argument that transwomen are just men trying to get into girls bathrooms and he is using women being assaulted by men as his reasoning. He is doubling down on using the vulnerable peoples suffering as his reason for being a bigot, all kinds of fucking horrible.
I don’t have anything against trans people I don’t like stupid people like you though. If I hated trans people I would just say it. You gonna cry bigot anytime you disagree with something? Grow up. If I was a bigot I wouldn’t want trans in either bathrooms moron.
"Anytime you disagree with something" is the rally cry of the bigot these days. No, not just ANY TIME or ANY DISAGREEMENT its when the CONTEXT of the disgreement includes your bigotry, thats why I'd call you a bigot. Not because a disagreement exists, you're not special or valid because you had a thought. THE CONTEXT matters.
You literally openly and proudly parrot right wing talking points that were the same talking points when de-segregation was brought up, same talking points when gay marriage was brought up, same talking points completely. The fake christian fake fucking concern "what about the women, children" shit with the bathroom stuff. Just fantasy stuff from bigot pdeo's like yourself who project your own evils onto the minorities because they're easier targets than the mirror.
I served with a woman who had to hide her identity when she was in, even as don't ask got repealed it was still such a taboo situation. The UCMJ is scary, our laws when enlisted include things like going to jail for adultery. So the fear exists, the bullying exists, the violence against them exists. Yet still, they choose to enlist and they FIGHT to stay in. Weak? Fuck all those dumb fucking bigots and idiots. That life is HARD and they're fighting to keep doing it. Weak? Fucking hell.
I think I know the answer but does this mean a woman who was AMAB and had to continue presenting as a man to stay in the army? Like wasn’t able to transition publicly?
(I’m still working on how to properly identify different angles of gender and I want to make sure I get it right. Like if your brother-in-law is your sister’s husband or your spouse’s brother.)
I think the first question they are asking if it was someone who had transitioned having to hide the gender they were assigned or someone having to deny themselves the chance to transition because they were in the military?
Yeah, I never got to properly address her because she couldn't be open about it. I look back at the work we did, the hours, the labor the fucking insanity of it all. To have to do all of that on TOP of hiding something so core to ones being, who you fucking are... the unfair level of bullshit on that gets my blood hot.
From a pragmatic view the military doesn’t gain anything from accepting trans people. Why would they want to teach segments of the population with the highest rates of suicide to shoot, move, and communicate in combat modalities?
Yet when people are allowed to express their true gender with real caring and support, those suicide rates drop radically. Gender Dysphoria isn't the mental illness that we deal with. It's all the crap we deal with when we are forced to live and act as something we are not that creates the various disorders and suicidal thoughts.
Detransitioning is a rare occurrence. When it does happen, however, the reason is almost always societal pressure and/or money.
As far as I know, the NBA has no explicit height requirement. If a Short King came in with the skills to seriously hang, I highly doubt they would turn him away.
You are correct that not everyone is good at everything, but that's why we use real measurable standards to objectively determine fitness. Just because a trans person makes you feel funny doesn't mean they aren't more than capable of the job.
Before #47's bullshit, there were a number of trans soldiers serving with distinction.
as a trans veteran i can tell the rates of what looked to be pretty severe depression and alcoholism were much higher in my platoon than they are among my trans friends.
Men commit suicide 4 times more often than women, but the military is primarily male. Veterans are also, in general, significantly more likely to commit suicide than non-veterans.
Sounds like the military just needs to invest in adequate fucking mental health care instead.
What do I gain from answering you? You'll just twist it or call me a liar. Additionally, you are attempting to engage in a fallacious appeal to authority argument.
Lol. I'm trying to figure out if you have knowledge or assumption based on bullshit. Imagine thinking "questioning if the person has actually first hand knowledge on this is unfair" thats surreal. To be honest, this is the worst post you could have made. If you listed your service, I would have gone into detail and we could have had a conversation. But you had to play victim before anything happened so you can make false claims without defending them.
ITS OK you didn't serve. I wasn't trying to hold that up as what makes you right or wrong. I was looking for a baseline so I could explain the errors in your post. Jesus man, STOP SEEKING VICTIMHOOD first. Try to converse.
Man, so you're just really defensive about not serving but having a huge opinion on it. Wondering WHAT your knowledge base is because of such an ignorant statement being made isn't a fallacy. Holy shit dude, if I ask a plumber if he's done the job prior I'm not being unfair. I'm trying to find out if I should hire this plumber, what is his level of skill/experience. ESPECIALLY if he says something I don't believe to be true based on experience.
We could have had a discussion but instead of answering the question you made assumptions, played victim and then made up bullshit. I was wondering what your level of knowledge on the subject was, here on Imgur a lot of civilians have no idea how them military works. If you served, YOU KNOW THAT. So all this post does is present yourself as preparing to lie/you didn't serve and you're going on defense instead of having integrity and just being honest. "I didn't serve but" or "I did serve and"
NOTHING about their gender relates to their capability, that is a LARGE leap and one based around bigotry. You tried to argue that its pragmatic to not have transgender people in because of your belief that they're lesser people, you're showing some choice levels of supremacy and basing it on the oppression of the people you're literally punching down on. Again, remember the oath. Remember what the uniform stood for. Maybe this is too much to ask for a bullet sponge to handle, I hope not.
You took an oath and within that oath was keeping the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness available to all American citizens. You took an OATH. To discredit that oath by slandering people by putting the oppression upon them something of their own fault you insult the uniform and what it stands for. You break your oath and push for a narrative that is stripping rights away from Americans. You need to figure this shit out or stop representing the same people who took that oath.
Alright, you're an insult to the uniform you wear and learned very little from your time in service it appears. Those people are in the higher numbers because of people like you, who dismiss the reasoning and put the blame souly on them. I served with people who had to hide who they were and they were great fucking sailors, you insult their service with your shit. AKA fighting words to any sailor on the USS New York. You should think on this, you're currently shaming the uniform.
Dude, you need to put down the victim seeking shit. I asked a very simple question you would ask if someone was speaking out about shit you disagreed with. Cool, bullet sponge gotcha. I don't know why you went of the fucking rails and went right into fantasy shit.
