Seven years ago I was in prison. I started school for social work to help addicts. Today I am a graduate and in a post graduate school. We do recover.
Edit Most viral: You all are an inspiration to me. Imgur has kept me grounded for a long time. I appreciate every one of you that adds to this amazing community. Thank you for all the love you gave me and I will definitely keep helping others to get where I am.

eswindy
Took abnormal psych with a lot of ex heroin/meth addicts, it was a real eye opener and gave me a totally new outlook on addicts, congrats!

Sometimes we suffer and blaze the difficult path so that we may guide those that walk it after us. Good on ya!

You can't easily leave a life of crime without social help. Prison should be rehabilitation not slave labour punishing minorities.
shawshankobrien
Super proud of you, stranger!

Congrats! I need to hear these stories. My addict sent me a suicide text last week. Fortunately he passed out on drugs before doing it.
OhNoDontTouch
by the time I was finally ready to ask for help, I was amazed to see that there were still people who believed in me. it made me feel much→

→less hopeless knowing that I had a few people in my corner supporting me in my struggle to get (and stay) clean.. it's a rough road, and→

Thanks. Happy for you. Yes, we're doing a lot of self-work. My son actually called my wife for Mother's Day and was happy. Miracle!
aethyris
My biological father was a heroin addict. As my mother found out, she left him, when I was little. He managed to be clean for about 20y.

After that his fiancée died of cancer and he started using again. He died in his mid fifties losing a daily battle.
aethyris
I wish you every strength you need to win this battle til your last day on earth. Stay strong, mate!

I guess I don't trust what anyone says cause I don't think OP is in the pic, based on his past Xmas selfies
hipshopbutcanthap
Also not sure why he'd be in prison 2 years after quitting H. Seems like something is missing
deadlysneeze
Well it's pretty simple. You quit heroin but they still put you in prison. Just because you stopped doing heroin doesn't mean you don't go.
hipshopbutcanthap
So either selling it, in for 2 years or unrelated? Main point might need clarification
deadlysneeze
It's kind of rude. I just got fat that is all
BobHacks
Hey sorry I'm just super skeptical. It that is you and your story then mad respect and congratulations man

Prisoners are people and I feel America skips that. Congrats sir. Go for a pardon to get your record cleared if you can.
StellarJay77
To also become eligible to vote again. (such a stupid law not allowing the people who are most affected by laws not to vote for lawmakers)

In the U.S. a felony is a life sentence, even when expunged it still appears on background checks. It's another systemic issue.
Naetron
It clears after 7 years though right?
manamongstyou
No. Standard background checks only check 7 years, any sort of higher level check will still show the record. It never goes away.
CryptoMagnet
My traffic charge (less than a felony, that occurred when I was a minor, over to decades ago shows up on background checks. You are punished
Naetron
Yea thats what I meant. I know it stays forever
MFsatan
I got 2 felonies for being in a car with people who had weed when I was 16. They didn’t care I was DD for them. Charged me anyways. They (1)
MFsatan
Said they “might” it to 1 felony if I did a sort of NA type class, and would ‘eventually’ expunge the whole thing. Our system sucks (2)
MFsatan
Might change it** Man I gotta start proof reading my comments
lackinglife
In Texas at least you can get pardoned and your record cleared had an ex con coworker do it. I don't know the specifics though.
