Just watched my dog being put down on FaceTime because I was too far away to be there for her...

My mother has been taking care of my dogs back in the states while I've been in Germany and today I got the call that no pet owner wants to get. My brother found my baby Mirrie in her kennel this morning. She wouldn't respond to call or touch. She was so cold he thought she was dead when he first reached in to get her out. The crazy thing is that, apparently, she's been fine in the days leading up to this.

The vet said she was in a semi-comatose state when they brought her in, that he couldn't be sure without running thousands of dollars in tests, but that it looked like her system was shutting down from septic shock. He said that he was surprised she was even still alive because her temperature was so low and her blood was barely even circulating. He said she still had a weak pulse but she was basically already gone.

Mirrie was only seven years old. She was too smart for her own good, she loved children, and could jump four feet high even though she only stood ten inches tall to the shoulder. I'm heartbroken that I couldn't be there with her, that I couldn't hold her one more time before she went. I don't even have any pictures on my phone to look at her right now, aside from the one above that my mother sent before they put her down.
