42yr old man getting lessons on life from a 6yr old girl.

Aug 22, 2022 2:44 PM

My small company is at a do or die situation where I need to spend money to complete two jobs

I’m anxious getting up this morning, feeling like I bit off more than I can chew.
I see my daughter, but who’s putting on her shoes one at a time, but quite obviously nervous too. But she’s doing it. Head held high, scared but pushing forward.

Welp….if I gotta drive over a financial cliff…may as well do it while smiling right?!

just out of curiosity w/out giving away anything sensitive - what's the job?

It’s a big pile of shit. You just start by doing the stuff you can and making the pile of shit smaller

They wouldn't have hired YOU, if they didn't think you could do it. Remember that.

Alternatively, you are the greatest imposter (syndrome) of all time! Mwa haha!

When you are asked if you can do a job, tell 'em, 'Certainly I can!' Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt

Recommend finding some way to share that with her some day. Nothing wrong with letting her know she lifts you up too! Love this!

Good call! I’m currently trying to work on her confidence..so will have to relay this some how.

Every day I am assigned a ticket on something I’ve never heard. Gotta ask questions, find resources, and sort a plan to improve or repair.

"Hey, you know, your script that listens on port 5002 ?" "Yeah" "Since you know ports, rebuild iptables chained rules for 25 pet servers."

The last time I took advice from a six year old girl my toe nails were painted gold and I had to play with Barbies.

Mine are currently pink and green…. I pretend to care but it’s basically a foot rub and I fall asleep

Pretend you're scamming everyone you're about to work with but are super confident about it

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can do it. Performance anxiety is real but just take it one step at a time. You know what you are doing.

You aint the first to feel like this, you won't be the last. Just like your daughter, you'll start and before you know it, things will just

flow.

Do your best. Thats all anyone can ever ask of you. If you fall short, fix it, learn from it and figure out how to do better.

Currently in a VERY similar boat, and with a 6YO starting 1st grade too! Just take it day by day, safety and quality before timeliness. 1/2

2/2 clients typically forget about "late" but it's harder to forget about "wrong".

in honour of your username! And thanks for the good words too!

Everyone feels the same way, and we're just pretending we have it together

Doing something new is scary. You already weighed the odds, made your decision. You got on this roller coaster. Arms in the air, GO!

1 of the best life lessons us to realise you can constantly learn from anyone if you so wish

Some good wholesome stuff right here

Hard stuff is scary. I chop it up into pieces. If I have a piece I don't understand, I study it until I understand it. Just chop it up.

TBH customers will work with you to get things done, they have a vested interest in your success.

Amigo - let that chatter go. Go execute - you know what to do, you may not realize it, you do.

Don’t forget to break it down into small manageable pieces to be reassembled. Enjoy the Mountain View b/c you aren’t summiting it in 1 day

This was very aspiring in its simplicity.

It’s a great feeling as a parent when your kid inspires you.

Can you outsource any of the work and white label it?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha I am the out sourced contractor…for no other reason than my training and equipment which they don’t have

Talk to a financial advisor about your options, a heloc, a business loan, even getting a loan against your retirement assets could help.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

LOL. It's scary the first time you figure out that *you* are the expert.

March. The crazy amount of politics that goes along being subsidized by my government was ridiculous. I had imposter syndrome pretty bad
