I began accepting commissioned pet portraits towards the end of 2024, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of creating over 70 portraits for clients and their beloved pets.
To celebrate this milestone and thank everyone for their incredible support, I hosted a promotional free pet portrait giveaway last month. More than 50 people entered, and Peepers was the lucky winner. It was a pleasure bringing her portrait to life with pastels, and I’m so grateful to everyone who took part.

You are one of the phenomenons I don't understand about Imgur. Your posts get the deserved upvotes but most of the time, next to one of them is a post of a cartoon, with big eyes a lot of the time, pretty much from a factory stamp, and it has more upvotes than your work. I tried explaining this to my self: "this character is from a well known animated series" but a lot of the time it's not. Paint-by-numbers with big eyes somehow gets more attention than your work. Sad.

It’s hard to understand what truly resonates with people sometimes, right?
I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure out why my work gets so little attention on some platforms. The truth is, many of them are driven by algorithms that rarely give artists a fair chance to be seen..unless you’re constantly performing, chasing trends, & even then, you can still end up wondering what you’re doing wrong.
Imgur, on the other hand, has shown me so much kindness, & I genuinely appreciate it. (1/2)

I know my work won’t connect with everyone. Not everyone has pets, and I can understand not eveyone is drawn to realism. Sometimes people still show me support just becuase I am an artist trying to make a living against the odds, and even that kind of encouragment can mean a great deal!
But hearing you say that my work deserves more visibility means more than you know. Thank you! 🫶🏻

What ever happened to the person who used to do art all the time here, I remember them being disabled / handicapable, short, and I think they used their feet for it? They were really popular for awhile.

Yes, I remember seeing the works of the artist. I think he’d do a lot of people portraits on commissions

I say it every time, but I'm gonna say it again: THOSE EYES!!!! they look like PHOTOGRAPHS they're so realistic! You really have an affinity for pets' eyes!

Whenever I feel like I’m done with the eyes, I’ll try to spend a little more time on them…just to make sure they’re speaking to us, and I guess it shows.

It definitely shows! I can see the love in that pupper's eyes, and the slight bit of mischief. You really do have a knack for the eyes. the rest of the portrait's features are also really good, but the eyes just always really stand out to me.

I have been drawing for a very long time. Started with human portraits first, did a lot of commissions while I was also working a full-time job. Then I quit and went into teaching art full-time for three years. I have been drawing pet portraits only for the last two years though, and continue to teach little still on the side. :)
