10 Amazing movies in no particular order pt 2

1-The Godfather- If you haven't seen this film, I have no words for you, it's the most classic of all classic movies, and for good reason. Go watch it. Great acting, great music, great dialogue, great cinematography, great themes, yeah it's that good.

2-Nocturnal Animals- Holy shit this movie is intense! That's all I'm gonna say, the story may seem simple, it's half about a writer and his ex, half the writer's novel, but let me just tell you, this movie starts off with the intensity at 11 and doesn't let up for a single moment, it's great.

3-Apocalypto- The story is self contained and very interesting (more than can be said about like 90% of historical fiction out there that relies on you knowing the part of history they're portraying and being excited to see it on screen). It's brutal, it's visceral, and most of all, despite a few things here and there, it's pretty accurate too.

4-Juan of the Dead- Basically Shaun of the Dead but in Cuba. It's fucking hilarious, and when it gets serious it doesn't feel forced, it has a surprisingly good script and dialogue, acting, and humor, as well as some kickass action.

5-Zodiac- Just look at these 2 actors right here in this photo, imagine them in a film together, now tell me you don't want to see it. It's a story we've heard before, the Zodiac killer and all the mystery that surrounds him. For those that don't know, the killer was never caught and his identity never discovered, so this movie is not going to give you a clear answer, if that's something you need in movies, but it's a fantastic portrayal of an unsolved murder case, despite the inherent difficulty of pulling that off.

6-The Girl on the Train- Unreliable narrator at its best. A woman becomes a tad obsessed with a woman she's never met, but sees every day from a window on a train. Their lives become impossibly interwined and simple curiosity turns into a dangerous mystery.

7-Prisoners- Yes, I like Jake Gyllenhaal and the types of movies he's in, he's a fantastic actor, but this movie, this fucking movie. I can't even begin to explain how great of a movie this is. Amazing symbolism, repeating themes, character development, great characters in general (who knew Jackman wasn't just the Wolverine?) (that was sarcasm, but in case you only see him as that, watch this movie, he is a fantastic actor), it's just as intense as Nocturnal Animals but in a completely different way. The cinematography and the way it is used as part of the symbolism of the movie itself is nothing short of genius, as is the story itself.

8-The Nice Guys- The first time I saw it, I'll be honest, I didn't see it as more than a fun movie, good but not great, but the story stuck with me, and so did the style, and I saw it a couple more times, each picking up more of the story than previous viewings, and honestly, it deserves to be here. It's funny but intriguing at the same time, it's got style but the story is also very real and serious, the comedy is funny but you always know the underlying tone is more serious, but one thing doesn't take away from the other, they work great together.

9-Your Name- I know there are people that don't like anime and won't watch anything that is done in that style, but at least give this one a try, I can't even tell you all the things that this movie pulls off, the animation is beautiful, the story turned out to be more complex than I first thought, but not any less emotional for it, and strangely, despite the fantastic nature of it, it feels very personal and relatable.

10-Spirited Away- Probably the most famous of Studio Ghibli's films, but for a good reason. The story is crazy and fantastical and feels more of a dream than a movie, but it uses that to it's advantage to tell a very adult story. It can be interpreted as many things and probably all of them are on purpose. It's about danger, growing up, prostitution, family, love, and many other topics handled masterfully and shown through the eyes of a little girl that is just as lost in this world as we are.
