Today the Star Guitar died.
That phrase only means something to a handful of people in my inner circle but rest assured, it's the end of an era.
In 1993 I traded a Mexican made Telecaster with scalloped frets for this shitty acoustic with these stupid star fret markers.
Over the next few decades I would write countless songs, play terribly at many parties and develop a deep connection with this particular instrument.
I was putting new strings on and the body finally snapped.
Sure, I could spend some money and put it back together but that's not the type of guitar this is. This guitar led a life much longer and much more interesting than it should have.
I'm mourning this loss. It's hard. I'm also reminiscent and really grateful for all the years we had together.
Cherish your instruments.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience with a Yamaha acoustic. The top started bellying at the bridge. I handed it down to my son when he was 11yo. He taught himself how to play and is now 14 and writing music. He still plays the Yamaha, but the last time we took it in for a setup, they said that it was time to retire it because the repairs would cost much more than the value in quality of guitar. It served us well for about 25 years.
