Happy Valentine's Day from Charles Addams

It's a complicated holiday.

Some folks with great relationships enjoy celebrating their togetherness with gifts, words, and actions of affirmation and affection. For others who desire fulfilling companionship and don't have it, it can be a painful reminder of their loneliness. Other people, happliy self-partnered, may do something for themselves or nothing at all. And then there are many other permutations and opinions about the day.

In any event it's a holiday that has essentially been "Hallmarkified" by the greeting card, candy, and floral industries.

I think it's a normal human desire (Maslow would agree) to be loved and esteemed. But life is messy, and not everyone gets all of their needs met. To all my Imgurian colleagues on this day, I wish you the fulfillment of your heartfelt desires.
