Me and my wife have been together for 13 years. The first weekend of the month I go to my in-laws to play some sort of family game. Which... her grandmother is pretty old and I understand why we get together with her. I love everyone in her family but I hate card games ( Phase 10 especially). Some games I do like. Monopoly, Risk, etc. But I make it my prime mission to flop the game. She believes that I just generally suck at them. I don't. They're just so boring.

As a lifelong gamer, and competitive nerd, I find board games and card games often have shallow strategy and obvious outcomes...

That's true for the popular "game night friendly" games, but there are some crazy complicated ones out there bordering on tabletop rpgs.
