Authorities and institutions are used to governing through directives, laws and signage. But in the face of modern, invisible camera technology and the anarchy of the Internet, this type of bureaucratic governance has no real power.

The disaster when it fails: If the goal of the ban was genuinely to prevent dissemination, everything is in vain the day the picture is out. The paper tiger is exposed as just that, and the institution is left without any real countermeasures.

And: there are already pictures of the terrorist online - wearing the uniform, leaked by a disloyal Norwegian lawyer in 2011. The picture was sent out on CD to everyone in court, and each picture on each CD was invisibly marked individually, in order to be able to reveal leaking sources.

Facts about the 22nd of July Center

* The 22nd of July Center was first established in 2015 in Høyblokka in the Government Quarter in Oslo. It is a learning center that conveys memories and knowledge about the terrorist attacks in Oslo and on Utøya on 22 July 2011.

* Due to the work on the new Government Quarter, the center had to move to temporary premises in Teatergata in the summer of 2020.

* In 2022, the Ministry of Education and Research commissioned Statsbygg to build a permanent 22nd of July Center in the Government Quarter.

* The groundbreaking ceremony for the new 22nd of July Center took place in May 2023.

* On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, the new center opened, which is free for all visitors and open every day of the week.

Is this the only thing that has the photography ban there? Because a lot of museums/art galleries have photo bans in general.

Sivilians cant do anything but stand in the way or ask people to leave.

Yes, probably. But this can have the opposite effect. There are many manic, defiant, and sensationalist individuals out there. A bit like hackers. And taggers.

There is generally no photography ban in our country. If someone takes pictures, no one can confiscate the camera or pictures. If civilians commit violence, grab someone or the police want to confiscate something, there is no legal basis for doing anything. Civilians can be charged with robbery or unlawful deprivation of liberty. They can only say stop or stand in the way and ask everyone to get out.

Today is july 22. And that it is 15 years ago. News is full of talk about the exhibition and the photo ban. It is shocking that a ban or attention is "needed" around the terrorist. He and all his belongings should have been put away and forgotten.

I'd agree with that position. I thought you were just whinging about the photo thing.

It seems strange to want to show something to everyone intensely, and then forbid them from taking pictures. It would be better not to show it, just a sketch or drawing, and just burn all his extremist stuff, and then there is no need for a ban that arouses unwanted curiosity. Everyone MUST not see EVERYTHING in the original edition. Are they trophies? Relics?

TBH the way norway handled this, respect. No hate, no special laws, no special treatment.

He is still very isolated, but has too much freedom and too big a cell. And I'm not sure he'll ever get out. The next generation of people might decide to let him out. Then he'll escape abroad - to his terrorist friends. If he's not lynched before he can get away.

With very few exceptions (national security around where troops or spies are placed), the government suppression of information is wrong. It erodes the public trust and it often backfires. Give me the information, I can handle it. I’m an adult.

20-30% are mental underachievers, but the rest of the people are fully aware of what is happening and will happen. Morality and ethics - the compass in our head is perfectly OK. And not all are children..

I'm not worried about you because you can handle it. But in any society there is about 30% of people who are unable to handle it. They are too dumb, cant be taught, do not understand. You can spend hours trying to get through to them but they do not have the mental capacity. They vote. They vote right wing. The form goups like MAGA, AfD and Dansk Folkeparti. It's the same with guns. I'm not worried about you as a responsible sane person to have guns. I worry about the 30% who cant handle power.

Correct. DPP lost many stools and parliamentary power , and changed the entire political climate and defined the rules of the game for Danish politics over the past 20 years.

Ok but I consider that a huge loss. It's happening in Germany as well. The AfD is becoming really big and instead of countering them, more and more parties just copy their policies.
