As if it's different anywhere else. I've been appalled by the educational standards here in Europe too. And in all this time they have barely improved, if at all. While conservatives and populists are still trying to dismantle it more whenever they have a chance.

Nervous Whites took refuge in religious schools so they could get the level of whiteness that they desired - and so had to torpedo the public school system.

The system here delegates education to the most local level. There's no national curriculum. That guarantees problems.

We tried… NCLB and Common Core were actually really good progress toward a functional education system, but they got slandered and misunderstood badly.
Now if you mention Common Core by name around most Americans, they react with disdain… but if you describe it without naming it, they think it’s a great idea.
