We always knew. Ive tried hard to make that clear to my kids. The oldest doesnt get it, the middle does, the youngest is still forming so not real sure yet.
It was never the American people that wanted to cut education funding. It was the elected officials being lobbied by corporations and billionaires that made those decisions over the last 40 years. Thanks Reagan.
As if it's different anywhere else. I've been appalled by the educational standards here in Europe too. And in all this time they have barely improved, if at all. While conservatives and populists are still trying to dismantle it more whenever they have a chance.
Racism. It's always about racism in America. Brown v. Board of Education; the Little Rock Nine (desegregation in Alabama); Apparently a significant amount of whites did not want integrated schools.
Nervous Whites took refuge in religious schools so they could get the level of whiteness that they desired - and so had to torpedo the public school system.
having humans involved guarantees problems so, that's not exactly an argument against local in favor of federal it's just a complain about the nature of humans
We tried… NCLB and Common Core were actually really good progress toward a functional education system, but they got slandered and misunderstood badly.
Now if you mention Common Core by name around most Americans, they react with disdain… but if you describe it without naming it, they think it’s a great idea.
Mentioning common core is a good way to sort Americans. MAGA can’t not rant about it even though they do not know what it is, and reasonable people will just nod their head, and follow the conversation to its point. MAGA cultists simply cannot shut the fuck yo if you use their trigger words.

We would, but we're too dumb to understand it now
ilovebigmutts
If they could this wouldn't be an issue.
NinjaCongo
Oh the American authorities understand this very well...
cambriago13
The ones aiding and abetting American societal degradation do not. Which was the goal.
Psionickitten
The ones who did were helpless as the ones that didn't still are too stupid to understand the repercussions.

A WWF mogul now runs the education department ??

Not most of the ones who got a public education.

Thank Nixon/Reagan advisor Roger Freeman:
“We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat. … That’s dynamite! We have to be selective on who we allow [to go to college].”

No, because we weren’t taught that

Yeah, but what about tax cuts for billionaires?

Thanks Reagan.

I don't think the general public in the US is aware of tax cuts for billionaires, Pip.

Nope. We aren't smart enough too.

My father taught public high school for 3 decades, so yes.
FelonyRaptor
If those Americans had decent public education they'd understand this and they'd be very upset.

uh...
what? oop! hang on, my phone buzzed...
heh heh, that's fun... oh look! a squirrel

Ironically, they're too dumb and distracted to realize it.

No, they do not.

The system here delegates education to the most local level. There's no national curriculum. That guarantees problems.
Awmph

Uniformity. There are some things that should be taught to all children; and there's no concrete system for providing that.
nostradumasss
Right now I'm pretty fucking glad that the Federal Government has nothing to do with a national curriculum!

Because the Constitution concedes anything not specified to 'States Rights', there is not a lot of teeth in any federal standards for this.
SomeDetroitGuy
That applies to so fucking many policies.
ZaphodBbx
The US Constitution is very big on States Rights, and it would take amendments to change that...which states would never ratify.

I hate Common core for the same reason I hate the metric system ... Yea, I know its better, shut up!!
