Measles epidemic in Samoa
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/117713067/samoa-measles-outbreak-death-toll-32-243-new-cases-in-24-hours
Not sure if this has hit the headlines anywhere else, but here's a textbook case of what happens when you lose herd immunity.
Vaccination rates in Samoa were as low as 50% in the last few years, after two babies died following an allergic reaction to a vaccination. Now Samoa has had to shut down all public schools and advised people to keep their children home to hopefully slow the outbreak while an emergency vaccination campaign is underway.
And the mortality rate? 1.31%. That's a 1 in 80 chance of dying from measles. None of this "Oh it's harmless, let's get the kids infected at a measles party so we get it out of the way.".
Measles kills. Don't let your facebook acquaintances poison your mind against vaccination. This is real, and it's going to happen in your community if you keep letting people spread misinformation.
Let's stop the anti-science sentiment. If we let smart people be smart, we all benefit. Let facebook idiots be stupid in their own bubble.
