In North Korea, women are permitted exactly 18 haircuts. All others are prohibited and carry severe penalties.
In Arkansas, Republicans want to dictate which hairstyles are allowed for girls.

What do you bet that this is also going to fold in racism and traditionally black and indigenous hair styles will be criminalized 🙃
Deathcameawienering
The world is collapsing, but this...this isnwhat keeps them up at night?????
1Megaton
WTF?! Well, I’m sure they are also agast that women don’t wear skirts and choose anything other than teacher, nurse, seamstress, homemaker.
badgesweedontneednostinkingbadges
I bet they're gonna see a lot of shaved heads in R-Kansas. That's the one hair style they cannot alter. Of course, the kids would have to give up vanity for this protest, so it won't happen.
MateriaGirl1
"Land of the free" /s why are they so afraid of trans people? I dont get it
FirstIn1
Think of the children!
svga
I mean come the fuck on
north korea says you can't wear your hair a certain way
AK says "you can't facilitate gender transition" and then lists people included in that
HATE THEM FOR THAT, not for literally misrepresenting north korean haircuts (MUTABLE) to sex (IMMUTABLE)

So, when do you Americans begin calling Trump 'Dear Leader'?

Reverse Mohawk.

I don't think Jojo the Clown is a gender, so it's probably okay. Well, it's not *okay*, but it might not be illegal. Y'know, like Crocs.

ktp57
So, does that mean you can’t use a nickname for anyone under 18? Fred has to be called “Frederick”? James can’t go by Jamie? Pat has to be called “Patricia”? Samantha can’t go by “Sam”? What ever could go wrong with this well-thought-out piece of legislation? Didn’t Samuel Adam’s go by Sam? And Benjamin Franklin went by Ben sometimes? Clearly this bill is in true agreement with American historical traditions (as Alito and Thomas discussed in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen).

so help people and you will be persecuted, where have we heard that before! can some just start the revolution al ready

Don’t even their heartless constituents care that they are wasting time on this bullshit rather than the economy and infastructure and such?
bikergeek6249
They don't. The only thing that matters to their constituents is "stiggin' it to the libs." Seriously.

Hey, so, is this "Vulnerable Youth Protection Act" also going to protect vulnerable youths from indoctrination into religions they might not choose if approached as legal adults? Is it going to protect them from grooming by religious and authority figures to reduce the risk of them reporting sexual assaults? Is this bill going to protect neurodivergent children from bullying by school kids & school staff? No? Well it's not gonna do a very good job of protecting vulnerable youths now is it. /s
AnythingMuchShorter
Ok, they might not accept "gender is a construct" when it comes to taking hormones or transition surgery. But what constitutes male or female clothing and haircuts is undeniably a construct. Long hair, skirts, high heels, lace, all of that has in different cultures been something men wore.
gastrocks
This! Gender-conforming, but they didn't define which era. Boys need to dress up like in the Versailles Court or better yet, our founding fathers.

What's a "gender-nonconforming haircut", anyway? Like, do Jesus's flowing locks count? Could this make Kid Rock finally an actually rebellious outlaw?
TaiPan87
Weirdly, Jesus's depiction with long hair was an artistic style choice to make him look sexier. The long hair and beard were not how he was depicted in early Christian art. Jesus would have had short hair and shaved, as per Jewish norms at the time.
Also: 1 Corinthians 11:14: "Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him?"
I DNGAF, but I do think its funny how hypocritical the Christian world is on this subject.
Hexrowe
Indeed. And the Torah and/or Old Testament also give somewhat specific parameters for how a Jewish man is allowed to style their hair and facial hair (the Orthodox Jewish style being the contemporary take on that), which matches neither the classical long-haired philosopher look nor the fashions prevalent in 1st Century Judea...
QuanfaKibitzer
Is this too short for girls?

It is whatever they want it to be. The purpose isn't to "protect youth" or even "outlaw transgender people"; the purpose is to control people. If they don't like you - for whatever reason - they can use this law to remove you. This is literally fascism. They know it. You know it. We all know it. It does not matter what is or is not an "appropriate haircut" because it was never about haircuts.
Hexrowe
Very true! I think ridiculing these ridiculous "rules" is worthwhile, though, even if it's only to help in some small way to keep onlookers from mistaking the dangerousness of these assclowns for anything like seriousness or gravitas.
Leithreas
Yeah, like how sodomy laws for oral or anal sex lasted so long and were not widely applied, except if you happened to be gay/etc.
mikeymikec
"We're not fascists, we just like to emulate their tactics, such as naming laws to be the opposite of what they're really about"

Like how the group that wanted to drown out the power of the citizens was called "citizens united" and so is the ruling that did that.

Where’s protect kids from their fucked up racist homophobic parents?

"Teachers who use a studen's chosen name instead of their birth name." Sorry, Bobby; you are Robert now. Timothy, ask your parents why this is.
CrimeThinker
Those kinds of nicknames are not "chosen names." Nicknames are different thing altogether and typically assigned to them by parents/society rather than the person bearing it having any choice at all.
JRaven419
Or kids who go by Butch.
yakusokuN8
I could see that backfiring if there are students who follow the letter of the law: "Mr. Smith, one of your students reported that you are referring to a student by a chosen name in class, rather than the legal name listed on the student roster {Caoimhe}. Instead of Kay, you should call her... uh... Cocoa-me? Came-he? Coomey? CA-O I'm he? You know what? I think we'll stick to her nickname, Kay. Just remember to use her full name on official documents."
Neednoggle
If I lived in R Kansas and had the resources, I would definitely just fuck up the courts with lawsuits against republicans who call kids by nicknames like Bobby, Billy, Suzy, Timmy etc.
CrimeThinker

Robert'); DROP TABLE Students;--
bikergeek6249
Often those *are* their legal names. Says "Bobby" on their birth certificate, not "Robert".
Neednoggle
All the better to help illustrate my point that this law is a just waste of everyone's time.
